Venezuelan authorities have declared former Mexican President Vicente Fox a “persona non grata” and banned him from ever returning to the country.

Fox was in Venezuela, along with other former Latin American presidents, to act as an observer in Sunday’s non-binding referendum called by the opposition on government plans to reform the constitution.

In a series of tweets, the Venezuelan foreign minister, Samuel Moncada, says Fox abused the goodwill of the Venezuelan people and came to the country to “promote violence and the intervention by foreign world powers.”
Moncada also wrote that Fox has been banned from ever coming back to Venezuela.

To put this in context, in the 2015 election, the opposition got 7.7 million votes (56%), Maduro’s party got 5.6 million (41%) and estimated turnout was 74% then. So it looks like this year they got a majority, but not a crushing victory.

Mexico is NOT interested in millions of Venezuelan refugees, fleeing a collapsing state, coming into Mexico.

“We do not want to be Cuba, we do not want to be a country without freedom,” said Julio Borges, leader of the opposition-controlled parliament.
“Today, Venezuela said yes to a dignified country, a democratic country, a country where people do not have to go because they have no future. The mandate the people have given us is clear.”
The woman’s death brought to 96 the number of people who have died in nearly four months of protests and political agitation in Venezuela’s streets.
The opposition blamed the attack on “paramilitary groups” linked to the government.

Mexico is NOT interested in millions of Venezuelan refugees, fleeing a collapsing state, coming into Mexico.

Particularly because it has recently become much more difficult to channel the refugees into the US, thanks to that evil racist Trump.

Except those are the productive class wanting to flee Venezuela, unlike the underclass criminal element that Fox dumped by the millions on America.

Maduro doesn’t care. Voting won’t change anything there at this point

“Maduro doesn’t care. Voting won’t change anything there at this point.”

Maduro was a bus driver, and then a union leader before his political rise. Dictators can come from any rung of the socioeconomic ladder, and this is just another case of ‘the worker’ rising up to then suppress and take rights away from ‘the workers’. Marx was clearly an idiot.

Socialists never give up power voluntarily. The people should revolt while they still have the strength to fight.

Violence and intimidation from the regime played a role in the vote with some not showing up out of fear, keeping the anti vote down some.

I don’t doubt that fear of violence kept the vote down.

At this point, though, votes don’t matter. Maduro will game the elections if he has to, or ignore the results. Right now, the only thing which matters is which side has more people who are willing to fight.
