The magic oven is now a reality
The Philippine Daily Inquirer ^ | September 3, 2017 | Margaux Salcedo

There are times I would like to make the effort of throwing dinner for friends or family and cook everything from scratch. But the labor of love just takes so long. In spite of all the inspiration from Rachael Ray, the 30-minute meal is actually more myth than fact.

Thawing your food alone may take almost an hour. Then there’s the diligence of slow cooking the meat to your desired tenderness. Not to mention the many times you will have to change pots and pans, as the vegetables, which cook faster, have to be cooked much later than the meat—you can’t just dump it all in together. And then there’s the extra challenge of creating a signature dessert.

Wouldn’t it be incredible if you could just dump all your ingredients in an oven and when you open the oven, everything’s ready to eat? Then even the busiest of executives would have time to create and appreciate gourmet meals when they get home.....

Yeah, right.

This sounds like those miracle inventions that, on closer reading, turn out to be graduate design thesis projects that are never even prototyped.

So, you input specifics, but how do you direct the magically calibrated energy to the specific place in the single pan?

Believe it when I can walk into the appliance store and see it demonstrated.

Which is why you take it out in the morning.

It will be thawed and waiting for you when you get home.

As for slow cooking, that is why God created the crock pot.

I don't do, "signature deserts" but for the most part 30 minutes is more then enough time to get a good meal on the table if you pre-prep.

I will believe it when I see it. They put cod that was frozen in a block of ice into the oven and want you to believe they can cook the cod to perfection without melting the ice. So how do you get the cooked cod out of the ice block when its done and who wants to eat ice cold cod? Crazy if you ask me.

In 1969 we had a slightly more primitive version.

They were a couple of decades old at that time, but we ate 'em up anyway.

I swear I’m the LAST US Citizen to take Home-Ec.

I learned so much in that class. I talk about it all the time. People think what I do with running my company, cleaning my house, cooking and caring for a 3 year old is impossible.

I learned it in middle school for god’s sake.

Not a half hour but almost.

Put a bag of frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts in a baking pan.

Add sliced onions, peppers, olives, mushrooms etc.

Pour a can of enchilada or pasta sauce over.

Add shredded cheese over top.

Cook at 400 for 45 minutes.
