Democrats claim that they have always supported equal rights for black Americans and that Republicans are racists who always oppose them.

Both claims are flat out lies. From its founding in 1854, the Republican Party led the fight to end slavery and then eradicate the racist Jim Crow system that held blacks down right up to securing the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Democrats opposed the Republicans at every turn.

“From its founding in 1854, the Republican Party led the fight to end slavery and then eradicate the racist Jim Crow system that held blacks down right up to securing the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.”

Barry Goldwater, who in 1964 was a conservative, opposed the 64 CRA because he did not want the federal government to grow its powers. In fact, conservatives in both parties opposed the 64 measure and many other federal usurpations.

Comes now GOP revisionists who have the unfortunate idea that they can effectively play the race card on Democrats and get some power.

Won't work. For one thing, the lamestream media, Hollywood, and social media will not allow this.

For another, Republican leaders - Abraham Lincoln - for example has a record that is not today politically correct. It is unclear how long he can remain in the public square. His statements on race make Democrat governors Faubus, Thurmond, Barnett, Maddox, Wallace, and Burns look liberal.

There is a better plan for the GOP: go American.
