Marriage is a liability for men and divorce is an asset for women.
My son was essentials forced by caseworkers and family court to separate from his wife, to get custody of his kids. She is bi-polar and the courts goal seemed to insure in the event of his death she didn’t get the kids. No regard for the overall well being of the family as a whole.
That started with 2 kids. They eventually separated and escaped to another state. Now have 6 kids.
Happens to the elderly all the time. SSI has better payments for two versus a married couple. Yet another marriage penalty by the government.

What the left doesn’t kill via abortion, are put on the government plantation until death. It is the simple cycle of the left. They get very angry when this is challenged.
Democratic party hates families, so they created a welfare system that would destroy them.
The entire system is built to encourage women to get divorced (on never marry).
Social workers and many others have been increasing that activity for a couple of generations. Various buzzard special interest groups have been feasting on the divorce/cohabitation paradigm caused by their lobbies in many ways.
I was groggy from anesthetic after my last c section a few years ago, and I was briefly alone resting in my hospital room, baby in bassinet beside me. A lady came in from WIC, clearly could see I wasn’t in tip top condition, yet proceeded to try and get me to sign up for WIC. She reminded me of the gym membership employees of the 1990s, working solely on commission. Hard sell. I kept telling her I was not eligible and that I wanted to rest, but she kept pushing, insisting it would be great food for me and the baby. Finally somehow I got her out. I was older and spoke English and had advanced degrees and understood the socialist state crap. Imagine all the young innocent uneducated or foreign born moms who just sign right up for the free food. She was really pushy.
Leftists are horrible people.
