Jeff Flake is finally taking a stand on the need to protect Robert Mueller — and it’s infuriating his fellow Republicans.
The retiring Arizona senator is undermining the Senate GOP’s efforts to approve as many lifetime-appointed federal judges as possible in the lame duck. His vow to oppose all judges until he gets a vote shielding the special counsel from presidential interference has already frozen 21 judicial picks in committee and on Thursday helped derail a nominee on the Senate floor.

The only relief the Rs can get from Flake is if McTurtle threatens his future lobbying career.
His staff should have been threatened. The word should have gone out before thanksgiving not to hire any of Flake’s staff until he decides to play team ball. They all need jobs and have huge beltway mortgages. That would have gotten Flake’s attention.
The reality is this is beltway theater and McConnell is just fine with Flake pumping the breaks on the MAGA agenda. Anything not done now will have to wait until the next Congress and K Street McConnell is just fine with that.

I was thinking the same think. But...
The Constitution requires a majority of senators (51) for a quorum. So I don't think that the VP counts toward that total.

Finally? Flake did this awhile ago. Sheer laziness prevents me from getting the exact date, but writing 'finally' is a joke.

I don’t understand why either the Senate Majority Leader or the Committee Chairman don’t remove Flake and replace him with an adult. He’s a short-timer anyway. Flake might as well be a Somalian Pirate.

If one senator calls in sick the number for a quorum decreases by one. But I’m just grabbing for straws.
These two turds in the punch bowl would never set on the judiciary committee if I am McConnell or any other committee they could cause issues like Flake and the Cowski from Alaska. They would be chairmen of the committee to protect magic underwear and blind arrogance and nothing else.
