Many years ago, Sears decided to end the Sears Catalog.

At that time, I worried about the longevity of the once-great company.

Sorry to see it go, but please don't blame the internet.

Many/most of these are closings of the Sears Auto Center, not the Sears store.

Bought a dorm sized Samsung microwave oven on sale at Woolworth in 1987. I've used it every day since.

JC Pennys seems to be doing okay. I see their TV ads, nonstop.

Sears? Not so much :(

board chairman submitted a formal bid today so we’ll see what happens - probably too late to stop any closures, tho

The CEO and chair and #1 stock holder wants it gone. He gets the real estate. Lampert or whatever.

Sears could have leveraged their catalog into an Amazon killer.

To this day, though, their website is horrible. They should sue whoever has been developing it.

I will be shocked if anything sears exists in a year. Kenmore and craftsman brands have been the only value at sears for decades. When they bought out Kmart it was a done deal that they sealed their demise.

Sears went out in our area (Utica/Rome, NY) years ago.

Yes, I do hate to see it go.

As a young college student in the early 70s, I recall TV ads for the Sears Diehard battery, and wished that I could afford one.

Later, when employed, I managed to buy some Craftsman tools. I still have them all, and they are among the treasures among my tool collection.

About three years ago, we had an issue with our Sears microwave oven; and, when we asked what it would cost to have a technician come by and diagnose, the cost was roughly the price of a new unit. This marked the last time we bought anything from Sears, or even set foot in their store.

I remember sitting at the lunch counter at a Woolworth's;)

I was a very young boy in the 1960s. During Christmastime my Mom would take me Christmas shopping in downtown Lansing, Michigan, and we would have lunch at the Woolworth's counter. Having a burger, fries, and a chocolate shake while spending the day Christmas shopping was the highlight of this young boy's year.

read a article today on FR about the former college room mate of Mnuchin ,Eddie Lampert, who has been chairman of the board and made decisions that enriched himself and lost money for Sears. Anyone else see it?
