Federal employees get perks taxpayers can only dream of

How many headlines have you read about the government shutdown over the last month? Considering that most of our lives have not really been affected and that federal employees will be receiving back pay, is it possible that the shutdown is not the disaster pundits declare it to be?

The minimal effects on our lives shows that our government is already far too bloated and serves as a reminder that the recipients of our tax dollars enjoy benefits well beyond the average American. Removed from the market forces at play in the rest of the country, federal employees and politicians are insulated from the effects of their own actions, while getting privileges that most private sector workers can only dream of.

Fed employees are taxpayers too, they just drain the economy rather than contributing to it.

Yes that is true. Although I worked for a federally funded research lab, the perks we’re great!

That’s because the federal government is not a ‘business’ and doesn’t have the same pressures to meet a payroll while staying profitable. They essentially operate as though they have limitless money and a blank check.

I think if missing one paycheck causes you to have to go to food banks and ask for financial assistance, you have a bigger problem than a temporary delay of receiving your pay.

This is what you get when Fake Congress makes laws that they are not subject to. And we wonder why the Fake FBI and Fake CIA and the rest of the Fake alphabet agencies can plot to overthrow the President.

They ARE above the law. Until it stops.

There are a number of reasons that there has been so little sympathy for the federal employees caught up in the shutdown.

One that I observed was the negligible effect of the 2007-2009 recession on housing prices in the DC metro area. Look at Case-Schiller data for the period 2001-1015 for major metro areas. Prices hardly moved in the DC area, due to the stability of federal employment. People all over the country (with the exception of Silicon Valley and San Francisco), not similarly insulated, took massive haircuts to their net worth.

What will happen, is that a considerable number of these Federal employees will simply take retirement (if they are eligible), and the RIF will then move through the remaining army, further decimating them. The “services” thus terminated will either be turned over to a privatized for-profit agency, non-governmental agencies in the “not-for-profit” category, or just expire as unnecessary.

It is a “win-win” all around.

Some feds who are not living paycheck to paycheck probably left the cold winter weather and waited out the shut down in some warm and sunny place. Basically a paid vacation. Every year if this keeps up.

We know a guy whose vacation corresponded to the beginning of the shutdown, he did his 2 week hunt and now finds out he will get back pay and that won’t count as his vacation.

Its a nice scenario to contemplate but realistically I don’t see it happening. The GOP loves big government just as much as the Dems do. They will never allow Trump to do a RIF.

"I think if missing one paycheck causes you to have to go to food banks and ask for financial assistance, you have a bigger problem than a temporary delay of receiving your pay."

While the media raves on about the latest caravan in exploiting the slowdown conflict, they miss the irony of how people who make a dollar a day can save $5,000 to pay a coyote to bring them to America while career government workers are unable to feed themselves within a week of missing a paycheck that is still guaranteed.

Maybe these hopeful immigrants do have something valuable to offer.

Many government “workers” at all levels of government and all levels of employment are parasites. Their jobs are either make-work, useless or malignant. While they may work hard, they produce nothing but headaches for Citizens whom they despise. RIF these nonessential drones.

There has not been a recession in D.C. since 1947

Pay raises pretty much every year..a job for life and you do not have to work if you do not want to.

Only a complete moron would have not seen that election of a dem house would likely lead to a protracted shutdown. Wait we are talking about government employees!

A generous compromise has been offered by the President. Any reasonable rational person with the interests of the United States and the Citizens there-of would take it.

Notice to feral workers, call your congress creep, call nazi pelousy, tell them to take the deal the President has offered. Your fate is up to you. Do something in your benefit and for the nation. Good luck.

They need a lesson in balancing their checkbooks, household budgetting and living within their means. They bring home more than many.

Not one missing paycheck and they were whining their kids didn’t have any Christmas presents. Not one missing paycheck and they were starving. Last paycheck on Dec. 28 and 3 days later they were being kicked out by their landlords. Fake, fake, fake news and flat out lies.
