Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.

More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.

My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.

There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.

I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.

Every ‘diet’ is literally a 4-letter word. People need to get back to basics and stop looking for the single point fix, easy cure, magic pill/powder/elixir and engage a condition to let the body heal.

Keto is harmful and so-called ‘paleo’ is simply natural eating. Most people doing gluten-free have no medical need for it and are masking an underlying serious condition which will only worsen in more ways than one. Nearly all restaurants are garbage and people need to return to making foods at home with local, organic and unadulterated ingredients. Natural fats - including leaf lard - are necessary components of human health. Veganism will end up killing most people and the cure for what ails most people is simply standing up to the person you see in the mirror.

I agree with a lot of the above. Not sure what you mean by "standing up to the person you see in the mirror" but willing to hear more if you want to add anything. I'm interested in your process. And that's an impressive list of reversed symptoms.

There are fad diets and fad conditions, totally agree. Gluten is not the devil. I'd say that ghee and butter are better than lard. There are probably some supplements/pills etc that may help some conditions in some people - I have no personal experience with them. I use herb blends that I make myself and have little to no experience with what people generally call supplements. My field is Ayurveda which I will post on more later in the week.

Since you have experienced much improvement in health I hope you do post more.

Ayurveda is one of the few disciplines I’d recommend, but here’s the problem: Most people are hypocrites when it comes to health matters. I suspect you know where I’m coming from, but there is a reason for the behavior. I cannot elaborate.

Natural fats include organic butter and ghee. Each fat has a purpose. I mention lard frequently because it gets people’s attention (lard is the only fat for some purposes, including biscuits).

The ‘mirror’ comment is a metaphor for the concept that people are their own worst enemy in an overwhelming majority of cases. Denial, confirmation bias...my concept is that we’re hardwired for it.

We’re not finished evolving...

Be well. I’ve abandoned outreach for a variety of reasons and am trying to get back into writing. I suspect you’d genuinely be interested in the core concept.

I am very interested.

I have never joined a list. What must I do?

I have spent nearly thirty years working with natural health modalities, specializing in dietary and nutritional supplementation. I have published one ebook, and am writing more.

Iodine used to be the universal specific in the American medical pharmacopoeia. The body needs far more than the FDA acknowledges. It may enhance disinfection, immunity, cognition, and stamina.

Our diets are simultaneously much lower in iodine and much higher in competing halogens (elemental chlorine, and ionic chloride, fluoride, bromide in various forms) than a century ago. Sodium Chloride aside, these are unnatural and non-nutritional, and, being smaller in atomic size, displace the larger iodine atom.

Sea Macro-algae (”weeds”), especially Brown, are excellent sources. Natural salt, although highly beneficial, is not. (I do not recommend Iodized Salt at all.)

Starting in the 1830s or so, Lugol’s Solution became the common medicinal iodine supplement. It is nearly 100 times more potent per dose than a typical modern tablet or capsule supplement, which are based on deliberately low FDA standards. Medical doctors used it without problems until Big Pharma took over in the 1930s, and MDs generally abandoned natural remedies.

One dose of traditional Lugol’s Solution is 12,500 micrograms (versus 150-200 micrograms).

Around 2007, the DEA had full strength and large quanity Lugol’s banned, ostensibly because it could be used in making illegal drugs.

One can still get half strength, small size Lugol’s online, but pharmacies no longer sell it.

Following the DEA move, some companies started producing solid versions of the solution, to retain the fill dosage, since tge regulation applied only to liquids. Iodoral was the first, as I recall.

The advantage of Lugol’s is that it is a blend of elemental iodine and potassium iodide. One works better systemically (such as, female breast), and the other works better in the thyroid gland.

I have usually suggested people ramp up to full dose on alternate days, 3/4 times per week.

The only mild problems I have encountered are:

Short-term detox symptoms as the body releases toxic halogens. It is temporary; getting the flourides and bromides out is a good thing.

Temporary sleep interruption due to increased alertness and energy, possibly requiring reducing dosage or frequency.

Increased sebaceous gland production, possibly causing skin eruptions somewhat like adult acne, again possibly requiring reducing dosage or frequency.

I have used Lugol’s on occasion. I currently use my own home-made sea algae blend. Since I am sensitive to most such things, I take it only in the morning, so as not to interfere with sleep.

If you research Lugol’s Solution cross-referenced with Iodine Protocol, you should get plenty of information.

I also suggest you peruse EarthClinic.com. They have conditions and remedies separately by alphabetized index, and I recall them having much information on iodine usage.

MMS: Miracle Mineral Supplement. Chlorine Dioxide. Jim Hubble.

I have never used it. Good or bad, it is unnatural.

Monolaurin is derived from Lauric Acid, a medium-chain fatty acid (12 Carbons) rich in coconut oil and mother’s milk.

It is a potent anti-bacterial and anti-viral agent, and was popularized as an OTC supplement by Ecological Formulas.

The body can make Monolaurin from Lauric Acid. As with many supplements, the value of exogenous Monolaurin is getting it at high dosage in short order.

Coconut Oil is the richest natural source of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) in foods, at about 50%.

Yes.

I have worked with many people using things like nattokinase.

It is classified as a highly-fibrinolytic (fibrin digesting) enzyme.

Others are: serratiopeptidase/serrapeptase (silkworm), lumbrokinase (earthworm), chymotrypsin (human).

Fibrin is the universal protein in scar tissue and debris in the body. It accumulates with age. In fact, a clinical def8nition of death by natural cause is often fibrosis of the viscera - hardening of the organs, with loss of function. It is a factor in many conditions, such as fibromyalgia and fibroid tumors.

Partially digested proteins that enter the blood stream (via leaky gut) can cause autoimmine reactions.

Circulating immune complexes that become perpetual, leading to chronic inflammation, are also proteins.

Systemic Enzymes - formulas based on one or more highly-fibrinolytic enzyme, are effective at breaking down these various ptoteins in the body.

I generally prefer a nutritional approach to most situations. But systemic enzymes are the most potent and useful non-nutritional (although natural) supplement I have ever found.

They originated in Germany, as Wobenzyme, in 1959.

Although nattokinase is mostly associated with digesting arterial plaque, it has broader applications like the others.

Beta-sitosterol is a phytosterol (plant sterol). It is a precursor to certain steroid compounds. It is found in the lipid faction of Saw Palmetto Berry, and is often used to help reduce benign prostate hypertrophy.

I suggest you investigate systemic enzymes and unprocessed shea butter. I have used both with great success for back and other injuries.

https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-1149/monolaurin

Sorry - bad mobile phone thumb spelling... it’s lauric acid - coconut oil derivative.

I did an initial screening with a naturalpath a few months ago. I’m hypothyroid and was looking for more than just - “take the synthroid” and we’ll see you next year. Hypo and hyperthyroid problems are generally an autoimmune response. The naturalpath was all about finding the reason for the autoimmunr reaction in the 1st place.

The initial bloodwork was pretty extensive and one of the things that is very common among those with thyroid problems is active epstein barr virus. This is the same virus that causes cold sores(herpes), and it lies dormant in a large section of the population. It also likes to populate in the thyroid. I don’t expect that it’s reversed any of my thyroid issue, but I certainly feel better. I won’t be getting another checkup on the T3 & 4 for a few more months.

Long story short - Mononlaurin, astragalus, cats claw, ginseng all fight bacteria and suppress epstein barr. All are great for cell health, and immune system.

To: little jeremiah; All

So this will be my first tale and the longest one. I had the following disease for 20 years and went through 12 doctors before diagnosing myself, getting surgery and beginning recovery. My Surgeon told me I would not have lasted much longer - I was in the end stages of the disease.

PRIAMRY HYPERPARATHYROIDISM - 70% of people with this disease, do not know they have it. Their doctors are often uninformed and miss the diagnosis. It is slow death. Impacts your entire body. Data from the Norman Center in Tampa:

From a statistical standpoint, patients with hyperparathyroidism die an average of 5-6 years sooner than expected.

This is because the incidence of several cancers is increased by 1.8 to 3-fold (breast, colon, kidney, and prostate), the incidence of high blood pressure is 5.5 times higher, stroke is 4 times higher, heart disease is 2.5 times higher, atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) is 8 times higher.

This is all explained in more detail on our Symptoms page, including footnotes to medical journals.

Thus, parathyroid tumors are benign (not cancerous), but they slowly destroy your body, eventually making you feel miserable, and increasing your chance of several cancers dramatically.

Do NOT “watch” your high calcium levels! CLICK THE LINK AND SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE SYMPTOMS IF YOU ARE CURIOUS:
https://www.parathyroid.com/parathyroid-symptoms.htm

My second installment of this first tale will give some specifics of my story, and why this disease is underdiagnosed. IMPORTANT - NOT RELATED TO THE THYROID AT ALL.

I take Serrapeptase and have for years. I found it while doing research on Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Funny thing is I had just been diagnosed with Prinzmetal Angina and been given nitro since I was having about 4 attacks a month. Sometimes more. Since I have been taking Serrapeptase I have about 1-2 attacks a year.
