Progressive Regressive Idiocy dragging us back to the Dark Ages
Canada Free Press ^ | 06/09/19 | Jim O'Neill

Relativism, Multiculturalism, Infanticide, Carbon Dioxide, Art, Fascism

Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. —George Santayana “The Life of Reason”

Modern lefties refuse to listen to this central message of religion, that we fix the world by fixing ourselves, rather than fixing ourselves by remaking the world in our own broken image.—Daniel Greenfield “A Movement of Conspiracy Theories”

The “progressives” (a misnomer if there ever was one)—I mean regressives—they want to regress society back to a feudal-like lifestyle, if not pre-Christian paganism, are masters of pointing fingers and playing the blame-game. It is always his, her, or its fault—never theirs. They avoid personal responsibility like the plague.

Very true (I trust you will not object to my modifications of your punctuation).

“Progressives” lust for authority, but reject the very concept that separating responsibility from authority is an abuse. The plaint of the person who is subject to such:

It's not my place to run the train
The whistle I can't blow.

It's not my place to say how far
The train's allowed to go.

It's not my place to shoot off steam
Nor even clang the bell.

But let the damn thing jump the track
And see who catches hell.

You quote from Santayana is the lead in to his more often quoted "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." I believe that the first section is much more powerful and the second has been trivialized into a mere admonition to learn history, which by mindless repetion "degenerates into an instinctive reaction, like a bird's chirp." (Hey, that's the last phrase from that same paragraph.)

Life of Reason by George Santayana

I really need to take a weekend and read that entire book. Every time I open it I find a gem of clear thought.

And that is not the only dark age nonsense people are embracing these days. People who don’t particularly share the leftist feelings (I am not going to call it thinking.) I am puzzled by two strange beliefs that seem to becoming prevalent and in this age of amazing scientific advancements. One is that the earth is flat and the other is that witchcraft is really works. (Except of course for the games it plays with the mind or if the so-called witch is using real herbs, etc.) Anyway, it seems the whole world is falling away from believing the rational and orderly world that God created.

Great article. These are indeed strange times. There was a time within living memory when "progressives" lived in tenements and believed in palaces for all; today's live in gated palaces and dream of tenements for all. The movement hasn't been hijacked so much as simply flown into the ground.

It didn't have to be that way. A simple acknowledgment that a vast majority of humanity is now living in better conditions than the pashas and potentates of the past might help to put a perspective on the whole thing. It isn't the grabbers and redistributors, the sellers of envy and violence, that brought this about. Instead there is a grim, determined focus on oppression that has dwindled to the point where its opponents must find their enemies in the past or simply make them up out of whole cloth. Can anyone serious possibly look at an African woman walking two miles for firewood and her American counterpart driving her car two miles to work and pretend that the commonality is systemic racism?

The truth of the matter is that people gulled into believing that they are oppressed may be safely plundered, soothed by the assurance that they are now destined for the role of avenging top dog. How that got to be named "progress" is one of the greatest con jobs in modern history.

We’ll have our global warming,
it’s gonna be the rage.
The benefits are forming
to stall the next ice age.

But, hark, what muffled grousing
the transom overflows,
as climate change arouses
funky festooned foes.

It’s a cascade of excresence
to make mankind regress
to living like a peasant
while using less and less.

Crank up the moth-balled factories
and turn the A/C down.
Build nuclear reactors
to light your life and town.
