I made the mistake of spilling some outdoor insecticide in the house. Now I need to get rid of the nasty smell

Any suggestions?

I am afraid to ask how much...

Use kitty litter or sand to absorb as much as possible. Leave it to absorb then carefully scrape it up and bag it. May have to do this more than once.

When you think you have absorbed all you can then clean with hot water and soap. I prefer to use Dawn and a little goes a long way.

If it is truly cleaned up there should be no odor left.

If you can’t get all of it because it absorbed into the surface then do follow up cleaning with vinegar mixed with water.

I was going to make a joke about bringing in a bunch of ants to sop up the chemicals, but honestly you should check the label. What kind of insecticide is it? What are the chemicals. This may or may not be a serious cleanup issue

Bring some outdoor insects in the house. They will absorb the insecticide and die. Bring them out after that. Then your house will be fine.

“in the house”

How about advising us in what room (garge, kitchen) and how much and what product and what type of floor or counter finish it was spilled on?

First of all, undiluted, get ventilated and get rubber gloves.

Straight chlorine bleach will destroy/neutralize/denature most organic molecules.

In addition to my questions above, note that there is a hot line on the product can that you can call — almost universal now.

outdoor insecticide in the house

Depends what you refer to as insecticide., some stuff used for ants is actually healthy, and can be digested as supplement.

Pour an equal amount of indoor insecticide on the same spot. Then it’s only half as dangerous.

Okay, that last bit... I was only joking around. Here's some actual (perhaps) useful information => Google question: How to clean up spilled insecticide.
