You said; ""President" is a proper noun and capitalized only when referring to a specific person who holds that title, ..."
I was going by the "rule" that you stated in post #10. I guess my problem was following a rule that you did make.
OK, let me break this down Barney-style for you.
Is the word "president" followed by a name? If it is, then it is a proper noun and it is capitalized.
Is the word "president" not followed by a name? If this is the case, then it is a common noun and not capitalized.
I don't think I can make it any clearer than this.
Follow the rules or not. It's up to you. They are still the rules.
Now that you have stated the rules properly it’s no problem to follow them.
It’s a bit above your Barney-level to explain that your first attempts to state the rules entirely skipped the context necessary to avoid multiple meanings.
But if it makes you feel better to put the blame on me for not mind reading your intent then, by all means, do that.
Please, don't take it personal! I just believing in preserving our great English language!
I don't always follow the rules myself, either.
OK. I do my best as well.
I looked up the rules a few posts back and found that you were right. I honestly did think that referring to a specific person by their title, without their name included, would require capitalization. As opposed to using the pronoun in an entirely general sense ie “the president of the country holds great power.”
PDJT should propose a Red Flag bill that guarantees due process & a hearing to any flagged person long before the po-po show up to seize his guns,
AND provision for mandatory jail time for anyone committing felony perjury by falsely accusing someone of posing a danger to others,
AND granting standing to the falsely accused to sue the pants off the accuser.
DemoCraps will choke on that, guaranteed.
Those are some good ideas. I like the concept you’ve floated of including poison pills in gun control legislation. Works for me.
Overall violent crime is down about 40% since the early 90s...
Obama at least gave us right to carry in National Parks. Reluctantly, as a freak rider on a must-pass credit card law, but nonetheless gave us a positive RKBA improvement.
All I’ve seen Republicans do for decades (on a national scale) is enact restrictions less fast than Democrats.
A President could do so very much with a single one-page Executive Order.
May I suggest:
EO paraphrase: as allowed under existing law, exempt all Selective Service registrants from NFA & 922(o). Direct TheCMP.org to sell new M4s thereto at cost + overhead. Address criminal misuse via military tribunal.
NO SALE!
You are an intelligent individual.
Thanks. I’m going to pass them on to my next email to whitehouse.gov.
Please do likewise and encourage fellow FReepers to do the same.
Ironic, though; what I propose is only what is current law in most non-Red Flag states.
It’s called the Bill of Rights.
“The [P]resident is considering tougher penalties for straw buyers...”
He really should go after plastic bags first, they’re causing far more damage.
My family was severely victimized by both the Soviets and the Nazis. None of those people had the ability to say, No! to those authorities because of severe gun control. While it may be that my family and I are similarly victimized by historical forces too large to defeat, I promise that this time will not be for free.
As such, I will not be voting for ANY politician who makes it easier for some future tyrant to do similar things to people in this country. If Trump is going to sign Leftist gun control legislation, I will not waste my time going to the polls because it wont matter to me who wins; instead, Election Day will be spent at the range and that evening I will be cleaning what I took to the range.
Do I want the federals keeping tabs? No. That said, if a loony toon was out there trying to obtain a weapon and I knew it...and that person hurt a bunch of innocent people, damn, my conscience would bother me forever.
