Trump Was Always a Joke in New York
The Atlantic ^ | November 4, 2019 | Peter Mehlman

In the 1980s, when life in New York City was an endless struggle to die of natural causes, Donald Trump thought he was on top of the world. It took the presidency for him to learn that he’d always been a citywide joke. It’s unfortunate that no one told him so back then, not even the true legends of New York: In 1983, when I worked for ABC Sports, I was with Howard Cosell as he interviewed Trump. When we left Trump Tower, Cosell said, “I’ve never met anyone luckier to be born rich.” To this day, Trump recalls Cosell fondly. If he only knew.

Money quote:

And the truth is, Trump, the lifelong New Yorker, was never a New Yorker. He was a tourist.

Writer is an arrogant prick.

Yet the only vice Trump never had was drinking.

Because he saw what that vice did to his brother, you ahole.

The author sounds like a zillion other resentful people. "How did this person who is not as good as ME become successful (popular, famous, rich)? It's not fair! And everyone agrees with me!"

Who wrote that book about how modern life is like being trapped in high school forever, a twisted, ironic No Exit? Greg Gutfeld?

It's easy to criticize.

It's not so easy to:

  1. Write a best-seller
  2. Build an international business empire
  3. Create a number one TV show
  4. Get elected President of the U.S.

This schmuck used to write for Seinfeld in addition to being a sports writer. Two jobs about... nothing. Looks like Bernie Sanders, same tribe.

Here is something that's very strange.

If you Google "peter mehlman the atlantic" and hit Images, these horrible photos (that look Satanic) appear. If you click on the photos, they bring you to the article in the Atlantic, but the images are not there.

In the ’80s, one of us lived in a studio apartment, barely making rent while somehow going out to dinner every night, then hanging out at dive bars.

—————

And that is why one of you is a billionaire President and one of you is still and envy consumed wannabe who nevvaha gonnabe an annybody

Sure Trump got a good head start but tons New Yorker trust fund babies have converted much, much larger family fortunes into bankrupt misfortunes with incompetence and hanging out in bars, dive or otherwise

Oh, and magic wands don’t really exist so somehow, President Trump is succeeding in a short space of years in all the things that the brilliant light bringer Obama told us were the incredibly complex and nuanced problems that were fundamentally unsolvable and our inescapable destiny

> Trump was always a joke <

I wonder if the author finds this funny:

Donald Trump: 304 electoral votes
Hillary Clinton: 227 electoral votes

President Trump's speech in Lexington may have been his best ever. I was blown away by it. I'm telling you all now there is no way he is going to lose in 2020 unless through fraud.

President Trump speaks extempoaeusly from the heart. No Obama teleprompter or Cliff Notes. I have never heard a politician as sharp in my life. And he loves the American people. He speaks of OUR American family and not about separate racial or sexual groups. He makes clear that we are one big lucky American family. He is going to win in 2020 no doubt about it.

If I were President Trump for a day...I would liquidate ALL my holdings in New York, completely divest, and watch the city sink even further into dystopia. They deserve nothing.

Seinfeld writer appalled that Trump adviser Bannon makes money from show

Peter Mehlman says it’s ‘galling’ that a ‘raging anti-Semite’ should profit from a series ‘that’s associated with Jewish humor’

10 December 2016
https://www.timesofisrael.com/seinfeld-writer-appalled-that-trump-adviser-bannon-still-profiting-from-show/

A lead writer on the hit 90s sitcom Seinfeld has said he is appalled that Stephen Bannon, Donald Trump’s campaign manager who is set to become a senior adviser in the president-elect’s administration, continues to make a fortune off his stake in the comedy series.

Peter Mehlman told the Guardian on Friday it was “galling” that a “raging anti-Semite” should make “all this money off a show that’s associated with Jewish humor.”
Bannon, the former editor of the right-wing Breitbart news website, began his career as an investment banker. A 1993 deal he brokered for the acquisition of Seinfeld production company Castle Rock Entertainment by Ted Turner left him with a share of the series’ royalties.

Bannon has been accused of anti-Semitism and bigotry. He has also called his website a “platform for the alt-right,” a movement that has been accused of xenophobia and racism, and which recently made headlines when one of its figureheads used white supremacist rhetoric at a conference and was met with Nazi salutes.

Bannon has denied all accusations of bigotry. While several Jewish groups have called on Trump to cancel his appointment, Israel’s ambassador to the US, Ron Dermer, and Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel have publicly backed Bannon, as have other Jewish groups, including the Zionist Organization of America.

Aaron Klein, the Jerusalem bureau chief for Breitbart, told the Times of Israel recently that Bannon is not only “not an anti-Semite — he’s a fighter against anti-Semitism.”
Mehlman, however, remained unconvinced.

“If he’s not anti-Semitic what do you have to do to be considered anti-Semitic? Shoot Woody Allen?” he said.

Mehlman said he was not sure how much Bannon makes off the show, which continues to generate money through syndication, but it was likely an impressive sum.

“He made a ton of money. It was a smart decision,” he said. “It doesn’t make him any less miserable as a human being.”
