McConnell punted on process until next week. I expect the bad news will leak out in time for the sunday shows. Likely an expanded role for CJ Roberts or something along those lines. The Senate can obviously make and change any rules they want.

For many years I have seen people say "yep, now the armed revolt will begin" for one reason or another but I didn't believe them. However; if the President were thrown out by the Senate on this flimsy pretext, the people would indeed rise up - armed. The Army would be called in but they would join the revolt. All the people of House and Senate who voted to impeach or throw Trump out would be sent home, with the leaders arrested.

The nation would be rebooted on a Constitutional basis.

Let’s keep in mind that I don’t know anyone from EITHER party who would actually prefer to see Mike Pence in the White House — except perhaps a small majority within Pence’s own family. :-P

If he is convicted by 2/3 vote then punishment can be decide by 51 votes. But obviously, they can’t punish if they don’t convict.
