My generation has been voting correctly because our heads were conditioned differently.
How does the US propose to change most languages that rely on gender a whole lot more than English does? French, Spanish, Russian, & German for example. And then there’s Japanese where women and men speak quite differently from one another.
I see they’ve chosen to focus on English, rather than all of the European languages with gendered nouns and articles (Latin-derived languages, and German which is an absolute mess).
This is a demonstration of bad policy flowing from bad science.
Sapir-Whorf theory is tentative at best. For example, languages that don’t have separate words for blue and green like Russia result in people a little less able to distinguish between the two.
The real world studies on language and culture prove this is bunk. There are gendered languages in Europe whose cultures are feminist, especially Nordic countries. There are gender neutral languages in the Uzbekistan and Turkish corner of the world that are very gendered. Gendered language does NOT cause sexism.
Glad we fought WWII so that as a result,we have these a-holes from the U.N. as the peace dividend.
