VANITY: Maryland - need help writing letter to school system board to reopen Fall 2020 (Real Facts)

The State of Maryland, and most specifically my county, Charles County (in Southern Maryland) is still deciding if they will fully reopen in the Fall, and the county's Board of Education will be meeting this upcoming Tuesday, 7/14/20, to discuss. There is talk that about 7 out of the 9 board members will vote to NOT reopen and there is one member who seems to lean towards fully reopening.

They are accepting comments from the public and I need help in drafting my comments and include many facts since the 'COVID death trend' is going down dramatically, despite the mainstream media constantly reporting that things are getting worse.

Thanks in advance!

The public needs to promise to withhold the percentage of their taxes that pay for schooling. I know that 51% of our property taxes go for schooling, so that would be my first move. Here’s your taxes, minus 51%. Thanks for nothing.

Let the numbers show that deaths are considerably down, while new cases are up, but numbers show less lethal, especially to anyone under 19.

Good luck. Fear is huge here in the not so free state.

And I am talking fear of the Donald, not the covid.

I would think that a fair amount of parents would not want to put their kids back in school. If this crap was going on while my sons were of school age I’d say fuggetaboutit.

Ask them to keep public schools closed and eliminate the school tax.

Why bother? Home school

The fact that so many of those school board members are incapable of discerning reality around them sets off my early warning radar about the utility of re-opening that district

With reference to how your public schools are financed, I suggest that you urge that if your public schools are not opened fully and on time, then two measures should be carried out by the school board:

(1) cut taxes and spending so that the public is not swindled by being charged for a service that they do not receive, with furlough or lay off of almost all teachers and staff without pay as part of a permanent downsizing or dissolution plan; or,

(2) establish permanent, irrevocable tuition vouchers so that students can readily attend any willing private, charter, or parochial schools that are open.

Personally, one part of me commends what you seek to do but the other part of me thinks you just wasting your time, unless you packing billionaire money and power status....they might remotely pay heed to your letter.

If there is an opportunity for reason, then by all means be prepared to reason.

Virtually everything the govt did and is doing was/is wrong. Lock downs, mandated masks, reliance on misguiding models and camera-thirsty bureaucrats, social distancing.... all wrong. And, most significantly, sheltering the young and healthy.... very wrong.

These kids have basically zero chance of being harmed by this current cold. But schools are doing harm to the general population by staying closed. It is time for the teachers to learn the long-known aspects of a relatively non-novel virus and combine it with great new data now available to actually help the children. Calm the nonsensical fears with knowledge.

I’m not going to do your homework, the links are easy to find. There are by now many sources of info about the successes of folks like Dr Z in NY who bravely pioneered the fantastically successful HCQ+ protocol to PREVENT serious sickness for pocket change, the latest upbeat study on the usage of certain steroids for those who neglected (or were not allowed) to take HCQ+ and got sick, the doc in Texas using nebulizer-delivered specific other cheap steroid working on all tried so far. Etc.

Don’t fall for the ‘cases’ nonsense. Tell them any educator should be able to read a simple line graph. Cases up, deaths down. Celebrate the fast approaching herd immunity - don’t fight against it by locking out the nation’s natural and best bet for collective immunity!

Normal daily lives for most. These proven successful, though seemingly secret, treatments for those at risk.

If reason is not an option, then use more fear. Tell them that bending over backward, as they are doing, to prove school is non-essential... might actually work in the long-term.

Who needs huge expensive buildings and left-wing teachers anyway? Suggest that this current misguided lock-out has made you wake up to the idea that we can afford real babysitters, as needed, for MUCH less money. And we can get our kids valid, less demonic curriculum free online. Your own home schooling, apt-building / neighborhood-based home-schooling, various new arrangements of non-America-hating private schooling become increasingly attractive options. And are more reliable options in the long-run if fear and isolation remain our on-going virus-fighting strategy.

In other words, teach the dang kids or learn to code!

They are doing this for political reasons so you have to counter with other political teacher reasons:

Tell them many are going toward Homeschooling just to control their kids and may be opting out of the system and you're worried that this will significantly reduce funds for the "Essential" public schools. Wouldn't the funds based on a per student capita be significantly reduced?

What about the Handicapped students, without the School system they wouldn't they be denied the use of the Schools Handicapped Facilities?

What about the Transgendered and Homosexual Students, what effect do you think being out of the School building has upon them as they are with their parents now??

Do NOT try any Covid discussions as they have already made up there minds. They will not listen that the Death Curve has been flattened or that it hits the Elderly mostly. They will react by saying you don't care for student's lives. SO DON'T GO THERE.

These are probably activists for Leftist causes and your only hope it through that. God help us!

Abolish public schools and privatize it all. Homeschooling is the best alternative.

The only fact you need to present is the case of Sweden, which did not close K-12 schools and did not see any surge in childhood cases and neither did they see excessive numbers of cases from the educators. And the Swedish children were not wearing masks.

Here is a larger run down of some facts:

Charles co has become infested with liberals, particularly black PG Co spillover. No?

I wish you luck. It wouldn’t have sway here in Howard. I’ve already had people get out the smelling salts on FB when I ranted that the board has no right to have students arrested and charged for speech OFF THEIR PURVIEW!

Much less offend their fragile sensibilities with COVID.
