When I saw news articles come out that the BBC was going to produce a new version of "War of the Worlds" that takes place during the Edwardian period I was quite excited. To get technical, HG Wells' book was published as a serial in 1898 when Queen Victoria was still alive. As a cherry on top the gorgeous Eleanor Tomlinson was cast as the main female lead. I was so excited to see Miss Tomlinson in Edwardian finery. Well I caught the mini-series via someone a pirated copy on YouTube and what a bitter disappointment it was. The story line deviates greatly from the Wells book. The only thing the two have in common are Tripods, Martians, and Cylinders. But even worse in my eye, was the creative talent committed the cardinal sin of imposing modern tastes on the production. The couple at center, George and Amy, are living in sin as George dumped his wife to live with Amy. Another character is a gay guy and I do not mean the archaic definition of gay. The link I provided is the best scene in the movie as the Royal Navy attempts to protect refugees hoping to flee to the continent. I enjoyed freezing the frames in an attempt to identify the pre-dreadnaughts. I swear for an instant I can see the silhouette of HMS Dreadnaught. On a scale of 1 to 5 bonnets, I give this 1 bonnet for the reason stated before. I will not tolerate moderns imposing their sexual deviancy on the past.

Always wanted to see it filmed in Victorian days, and not modern times.
Glad to see the Royal Navy will always be there when needed!
Did they also put in an animal and child shagger?
I know the Victorians were as sexually active as modern people, but they hid it better underneath all that frippery..................
What? No furries?
Avoid the series Bridgerton then like it's got Covid. It's supposed to be set in Bath during the Regency period but it is cast like a multicultural MTV piece. Even the band is playing pieces from Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande as the people are doing their dances in their fabulous costumes.
Any of the tripods flying the Confederate Flag?
Good thing Meghan and Harry moved to LA.
The auxiliary minesweeper and repurposed Disneyland submarine that is the Royal Navy today couldn't carry MM's luggage.
Disappointing as I like the story. Reset in the appropriate time period is great. Applying modern political correctness is not and monumentally stupid.
Amazing, it went a full 1:02 Minutes before a Black Person showed up. That’s probably the longest lack of diversity in any BBC “Historical” film in 15+ years.
Just give up on watching new stuff at this point, particularly if it is from the UK. It’s all about wokeness now.
BBC - Muh diversity.
