The Expanding Vacuous Universe

This is what passes for a logical argument in Washington today:

Screenshot_2021-04-23 Robert Reich on TwitterIn case you ever need an example of failed reductive thinking

The argument is so flawed it can’t even be classified as a logical fallacy. In fact I’m not even sure if it can be called an argument anywhere outside of politics.

Beyond the stupidity of Robert Reich’s (Bill Clinton’s Labor Secretary) claim, the founding fathers already established the reason the seat of the Federal Government should not be placed under the power of a state legislature, but rather under the exclusive jurisdiction of the U.S. Congress. Of course the Constitution is not reason enough for today’s enlightened Democrats not to vote for D.C. statehood, which would give the D’s 2 more guaranteed Senate seats. No, the postmodern Dems - who plant evidence of racism in every case they deem worthy of debate in the media – insist that “equity” demands statehood of the peoples of the District of Columbia. More legislators and bureaucracies, isn’t that just what Washington needs?

Oh, and about that name, “District of Columbia,” they’ll keep the initials but due to it’s racist roots change it to the “Douglass Commonwealth” in honor of abolitionist Frederick Douglass, who lived there for 17 years. No, I’m not kidding.teachers

Take a bow all you educators who’ve been “teaching for social justice” instead of ability to think. You’ve done a cracker jack job of undermining the foundations of the finest democratic republic the world has ever experienced, hence transforming it into one of the most vacuous places on the planet.teacher

That Reich, what a genius. How many US Senators does Iceland get? How about Ethiopia, or Japan?

Since they so desire representation, maybe, when Republicans take charge, they should dismantle DC and return it to Maryland.
I am wondering, what would the Dem. reaction be?

Relocate the Federal Government to the location of the 455th near Minot, ND. Might give the Hawks pause stirring the pot everywhere on Earth.

He is unique, a leader. That makes him a Reichsfuhrer.

“Republicans take charge, they should dismantle DC and return it to Maryland.”

A couple of problems with that proposal. Maryland doesn’t want it and the Constitution doesn’t allow it for the same reason it doesn’t allow D.C. to become a state.

Now, if the government would abandon the current District and replace it with another, that might well pass Constitutional muster, because nowhere does the Constitution name or state where the seat of government should be. Perhaps Kansas would be willing to donate 6 miles square.

That would be ideal. Kansas (geographic center of continuous 48 states). South Dakota (geographic center of the whole US). Or population center of the US which is, I think, somewhere in Missouri.

What they, Democrats, want, is to create state out of most of DC and left just the government area around White house and Congress as the rump DC. That would, presumably, made it constitutional.
My idea is to do the same, leave the rump DC and annex the rest to Maryland. That would be, presumably, also constitutional, more constitutional than the Dem proposed solution. .
Precedent - the Virginia part of DC was returned to VA in 1846. DC is on the land donated by Maryland. So, presumably, all or substantially all of the land could be returned to Maryland, and rump DC without any population would stay as new DC. DC residents would get the representation they soo desire.

Republicans can offer this solution, which would be more constitutional and, presumably, satisfy all the wishes of those poor, disadvantaged residents.
Dems would gain at most one seat in Congress and loose at least two electoral votes in presidential election.
One would see, if they like this. My guess is they would oppose it with all their power.
At least they would show their hypocrisy.
They are soo worried about unrepresented residents, let us give them the representation they desire.

The problem with any kind of rump D.C. is the 23rd Amendment. Those living in the rump would still be entitled to 3 Electoral Votes. The only way to square that is to repeal the 23rd. which the dems don’t anywhere near the votes needed to propose it let alone the need for 38 states to agree.

Since Maryland has like 6,000,000 residents, even with DC added, it will still remind mid size state as far as population is concerned. So the DC residents will gain about as much voting power as residents of e.g. Indiana.
Kind of fair, if you really care about giving DC representation.
I am sure, they do not really care about those residents. They just want the power!

Ok, I guess,
If they strip DC of all residents, One could, presumably, carve tiny Republican DC.
I would volunteer to sacrifice and move there, If I was one of about ten residents. I would give up my representation for 3 electoral votes. If we get enough FReepers over there, we could created 100% Republican DC!
We can dream.
BTW, if they make DC state as Dems suggest, it would run into the same 23th amendment problem. The rump DC would be still entitled to 3 electoral votes, I presume.
