Folks buying hard goods while their ‘money’ still has some value?

Saw this in the “Carter” years.

What are RV owners going to do when the government insists on 35MPGs for the bigger RVs and 50MPGs for the smaller ones?

Vacationing might be one of the biggest reasons for getting RVs, but, it could also be the new homes for those that can no longer afford regular homes and regular rent for apartments.

Motorhomes and trailers are very expensive, require maintenance, insurance, storage, and in some cases a 2nd tow vehicle since 6 cylinders don’t have the omph.

I can boondock in places most people never even know exist. One way to go where you want to go and do what you want to do with minimal contact with government or regulations. In pretty nice comfort.

I lived in a 30’ tow behind for several months during a divorce. The combined camper payment and park fee was $600 a month. That’s everything, including decent wifi. Then I bought a house on a couple of acres. I cannot keep up with the brush clearing, I worry my a/c is going to go out or something else is going to go wrong. I’ve already replaced all the windows, the roof, and the water heater. Sometimes I think I should have stayed in the trailer.

I bought a new 2021 Redwood 5th wheel and paid way too much for it.

The good news is, with the price increases lately, I can now sell it used for more than I bought it for new.

It is my home. I live in it. And I can hook it up to my truck and get it out of the way of Hurricanes. Doesn’t work against tornadoes.

‘Towable motor homes’ - that sounds like type of living spaces that are piping up all over my neighborhood as living accommodations while peoples homes are being repaired from Hurricane Ida.

Even the multi-million top end motor coaches are selling like hot cakes. I live about 45 miles from the Marathon Coach factory in Coburg, OR. 45-foot coaches built on Prevost bus chassis. The new ones sell for 2.5 million and up, and they are frequently sold before they are finished.

The “cheapest”, and only, new bus currently in stock is listed for $$2,458,044. The next cheapest on their web site is a 2014 model, listed for 1.2 million.

Bought our 2020 Grand Design on Christmas Eve day in 2019 for $26k. They’re going for $38k now. I’ve seen our 2019 model advertised at $32k used.

When the time comes for me to retire in ten years, there is going to be 1,000’s of sweet low milage diesel pushers for me to chose from.

Keep buying them everyone.

I got mine right before this covid panic started. The same model Sprinter styles are up 50% for the same year. Good luck finding RV parks. But I boondock anyway. Even boondocking is getting hard to do with so many people on the road. It will self correct soon enough.
