American Gunmakers Help Ukrainians Fight Back Against Putin

Adrian Kellgren’s family-owned gun company in Florida was left holding a $200,000 shipment of semi-automatic rifles after a longtime customer in Ukraine suddenly went silent during Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the country.

Fearing the worst, Kellgren and his company KelTec decided to put those stranded 400 guns to use, sending them to Ukraine’s nascent resistance movement to help civilians fight back against a Russian military that has been repeatedly shelling their apartment buildings, schools, hospitals and hiding places.

“The American people want to do something,” said Kellgren, a former U.S. Navy pilot. “We enjoy our freedoms, we cherish those things. And when we see a group of people out there getting hammered like this, it’s heartbreaking.”

Why doesn’t Ukraine just send in social workers..no need for those awful guns. Pass some laws to ban them

The only Kel-Tek gun I’ve fired was a Sub2000 semiautomatic carbine. 9mm. It couldn’t get through a single mag without a jam. I considered it junk. Maybe it was just that specific gun was a lemon but it turned me off of them forever.

They’ve improved significantly over the past 7 years or so.

They have an RBD bull-pup that I would love to own, but I just have too many children right now.

Good point. It’s amazing how quiet all of our so called entertainment experts have gotten. Where’s Alyssa? Lebrainless? Orca? Odumbo?

...but I just have too many children right now.

Is anyone else really concerned by the temporary nature of the phrase "right now?"

...

I'm just messing with you - I know you meant "at home right now" - uh, right? ;-)

I had one "bounce back" temporarily...20 months ago mid pandemic. I'm sure we'll be empty nesters again soon...

Yeah, the US government will still try to shut you down no matter what you provide.

If freedom is your thing, you would be wise to hang on to them.

I got turned off of bullpups because I’m a lefty (handed) and I got tired of brass in the face. I understand they have downward ejecting ones now but I’ve never tried one.

I’m a lefty too and I hated them for the exact reasons you do.
But this one extracts the shells in the front. So that problem is eliminated. Look it up.

The only issue I have is the long length of pull, but I can adjust with practice I guess.

A guy I used to work with had the exact same experience with a Walther PP (or maybe PPK?). Considered it junk, and wished he'd never bought it. Guessing he'll never buy another Walther...

On the cover of “Firearms News” this week is the Croatian made Sprinfield bullpup that has ejection ports on both sides of the machine and a reversible bolt for function of the ejector. A little pricey at MSRP $1999.

They have. I have shot a few of their SU-16 rifles, which are very popular here in CA as they do not have a pistol grip and avoid “assault rifle” features. They all digested all kinds of ammo, even steel cased, without any issues.
