Could Russia Try To Take Kyiv Again? The War In Ukraine Is Far From Over
19FortyFive ^ | 10/22/2022 | Daniel L. Davis

Since late August, Ukraine has driven Russian troops out of thousands of square kilometers of formerly occupied territory and are reportedly days from launching a renewed effort to capture the Russian-held city of Kherson. Many continue to write off the Russians, concluding the Ukrainian momentum is “irreversible,” implying Zelensky’s forces are on their way to winning the war by the end of this year. While serious analysts realize the war is far from over, there may be a growing danger to Ukraine few have considered; a vulnerability that could doom Kyiv to defeat.

I see Davis a lot on Fox News - he was on yesterday. The thing I don't like is Biden wants to kick every Russian soldier out of Ukraine. How do we do that?

Ukraine will just have to move troops from the South to defend Kyiv which would work for the Russians because it will allow then to reinforce their defensive positions in the South.

If Russia decides to attack Kyiv again, this time instead of an all-out assault, they might try to encircle the city and lay siege to it, basically cut it off from the rest of the country, it might be next to impossible for Russia to accomplish that but who knows.

Why on earth would Putin want to do that unless the globalists get their way and taking Kiev is part of some massive land war with NATO (before the nukes start falling). Russia NEVER had any desire to occupy any part of Ukraine other than those territories now incorporated into Russia. This war would have ended with the Erdogan negotiations last spring had the Ukes given up these territories which they were destined to lose anyhow.

How many times did Kiev change hands in the First World War?

In the Russian Civil War? Note: After the revolution, there was much resistance in Ukraine?

In the Second World War?

Note: A very long time ago, Kiev was the capital of Russia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kievan_Rus

Is it different this time because the war was fomented by interests in the USA?

Lol…they never tried to “ take Kiev” nor to launch an all-out assault.
They deployed sufficient forces to cause Kiev to keep troops in the north in defense of an invasion that never came. Nor given the relatively numerically small force deployed, was an occupation ever intended.

Frankly, why do the Russians ‘ need’ Kiev? Militarily or politically.
All the politicians will flee and leave the Russians with a bunch of hostile pro-Ukraine urban civilians and a destroyed infrastructure to support. The Russians don’t “ need” to occupy Kiev to bring about what they need…regime change. Just cause the remnants of the Uke military and their leadership to break faith with Bankova and see what happens

The next Russian move in the north and west could be to stop the flow of western weapons and mercenaries advisors into Ukraine. Stop the trains. Destroy the power grid and fuel depots ( already underway) …defend Belarus from western attacks and an attempted coup.

Then why did Putin send so many troops to Kiev at the start of the war?

Putin was trying for a decapitation strike, hoping that Zelensky would flee or be captured. Then Putin would have installed his own puppet and declared victory. Afterwards there would be “negotiations” that would sign over the eastern territories to Russia.

But Putin overestimated his army and underestimated Ukrainian resistance. So now we can have the current situation.

Wait!

We have been repeatedly told, taking Kiev was never the plan!

It was just a tactical feint to make the taking of other parts of Ukraine easier!

How can this be true.../S

I am surprised that the author does not mention the Pripet Marshes, which lie along the Belarus - Ukraine border and, according to what I have read elsewhere, make movement through the area very difficult.

Yeah right! Putin did not underestimate the Uke military. The Russians pretty much slaughtered the Ukes before NATO started its massive proxy war. I get so tired of this regurgitated western media/government disinfo. It was to be Ukraine, Poland then East Germany and Huzzah, the new Warsaw Pact! Right?

correction

Ukraine rotates units from the current front line to the northern border. So, there are units in place.

At this time, the units on the northern front are in strategic reserve, resting and recuperating, and getting ready for their next deployment to the eastern or southern front. Ukraine has transitioned to a “long war” footing, and can sustain the current pace of operations indefinitely.

I can’t say Ukraine would be able to sustain a two-front war indefinitely; but, who is to say how long Belarus would be in the game?

I should also note that Ukraine has developed Territorial Defense Forces in every one of its oblasts. Poland and Lithuania have also started to develop this model. In principle, this is a Swiss-style defense, where every place is prepared to defend itself. Sounds like a great idea to me. Somebody like Putin only understands force. You have to be able to defeat that guy, or maybe actually defeat that guy. You can’t reason with him.

This isn’t the first time Putin has done this.

He has already taken over Transnistria and South Ossetia. He thought he could expand into Ukraine. The fact that Ukraine was considering joining NATO probably factored into it.

I don’t like the current globohomo regime in the US but that doesn’t mean that Russia is any better. If they were actually Christian they wouldn’t be rounding up guys in the street and sending them into battle without training. Russia is a kleptocracy that stole and sold all the good military equipment to buy yachts and dachas.

When the Berlin Wall fell, Ukraine had the population of 53 million. Now it's at 41 million. A long war is going to devastate the nation demographically.

it wasn’t the U.S. that formented war in Russia going back hundreds and hundreds of years . Going back 800 years, it was the Mongols.

The Golden Horde reduced Moscovy to a vassal state.

At that time, Kiev was at a juncture between Byzantium, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth when it emerged from domination by German Hanseatic League, and the Cossacks when they emerged from domination by the Golden Horde. Kiev was not part of Moscovy. Kiev was transitional between western Christianity and eastern Christianity.

Turn the clock forward a few hundred years, and Moscovy was renamed Russia and the Grand Duke of Moscovy renamed himself the Tsar (Ceasar) to assert that Moscovy was the rightful heir to Kiev and through Kiev to Byzantium and the Roman Empire.

It (Russia) then engaged in hundreds of years of war to expand to the east, south and west. After Imperial Russia was defeated in WWI, Lenin engaged in wars to reconquer the places that sought independence. These wars of Lenin were continued by Stalin, eventually in consort with Nazi Germany.

After the Soviet Union fell apart, Putin has been engaged in a series of wars to put back together Imperial Russia. Only, so far, what has he accomplished? Chechnya and South Ossetia? Talk about the second coming of Tsar Catherine the Great (who, by the way, was German).

Ukraine should launch a counter-offensive in Russia. Specifically “to hit ‘em where they ain’t.”

On the diplomatic front, it should extend ties to those other nations that Russia has attacked and stolen territory.

Russia can’t take Bakmut in 4 months of trying.

Kiev is a crack pipe dream.

It is even too dumb to discuss. Russian troops lost the element of surprise and would be slaughtered within 30 miles of the border.
