When the republican Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives publicly supports a legislative change that would permit the republican Governor to run for the GOP nomination, it doesn’t happen without prior discussion.
FLORIDA – Top Republicans in the Florida legislature said Tuesday that they’d be willing to change state election law so that Gov. Ron DeSantis could run for president without resigning from his current job.
“I think that’s a great idea,” Florida House Speaker Paul Renner said in a press conference with reporters at the state capitol, when asked about potential changes to the state’s so-called “resign to run” election law in the forthcoming legislative session. “I think we’ll look at that.”

Yes I understand your feelings, I took the vaxx on day one as a first responder and never been the same. I'm in the middle of the movie "Died Suddenly" right now. OMG.
Pffft. Honestly, you don’t have to support the guy, but don’t be silly. I think his keeping his military service, service in Congress, keeping his state open, overthrowing the quasi-government that was Disney, and turning his state from purplish to bright red counts a little more than Obama’s career as a professional rabble-rouser, up and coming Daley machine hack, and do-nothing senator
I hope DESANTIS honors his promise to serve Floridians for four years.
That rule should apply for all politicians who want to run on the taxpayers dime. Resign, then run for office.
I like DeSantis a lot, but as of this point, I’m hoping he waits. I don’t know. Hard to predict the future and the best course of action. Looking back at 2000 and how Jorge turned out, and Obama getting it in 08, I almost wish Gore would have found those 500+ votes.
Clearly, DeSantis is planning on running. This is his time. He is coming off a massive landslide win and he only has one chance to freshly advertise his success in running a state that is experiencing unprecedented growth. He is term limited. Simple political calculation dictates waiting until 2028 when he is long out of office and his success is a distant memory will not be to his advantage.
Oh, good Lord, no.
I agree. Restrict mail-in/absentee voting to the usual restricted absentee reasons (military, in college, etc.) and have early voting restricted to maybe Thursday through Sunday the weekend prior to an election.
(Mail-in voting is handled quite well in this state — it is an absentee system, technically, where the ballot has to be requested, but it’s still too liberalized. Maybe that was OK in the height of COVID, but that’s over now.)
"Thank you for electing me to be the governor of this big, beautiful state, like no other in the history of the world. You people are great people, wonderful, the best people ever. And the alligators! Oh, my. The biggest, most beautiful alligators the world has ever seen!"
You're probably right about that.
And Trump cannot win the general election so we're screwed.
We can kiss '24 goodbye.
Why would he?
The problem isn't early voting and mail voting. The problem are Republican voters who refuse to use these tools, ceding a tremendous advantage to the Democrats.
Except, perhaps in Florida, where the GOP won in a massive, massive landslide.
Quit making excuses for why your guy loses.
You can take that to the bank. The Left will pull out all stops to steal 2024. They already know from 2020 that we have no fight in us. And they are not going to give up what they have without a knock down and drag out bar room type brawl. And we let them know in 2020 we just don’t have it in us. At one time long ago I thought we would go toe to toe and nose to nose with them but I was proven wrong in the election of 2020.
I doubt DeSantis is interested in running before 2028 - he’s too savvy to try to be a spoiler and divider.
That Blitz Canvassing is located in Colorado and has worked the Midwest with no mention of having worked FL. Pretty deceptive to run for FL governor with no intention of staying in the job.
