Perhaps Ohio and every state downstream on the Ohio River gets to stop paying federal taxes. I’ll take this opportunity to suggest yet again that we scrap the current tax code, shutter the IRS and go to a flat rate consumption tax on all new goods and services purchased by consumers. The consumption tax should be collected by the states along with state sales taxes. States in turn transfer the federal consumption taxes to the US Dept of Treasury. THAT introduces a much needed check and balance for states. Little disputes like this would result in Ohio withholding payment to the Treasury.

Recent rains blew out a bridge we used to access a timber property. Two agencies (resource board...) took a look and essentially said FU. One was supposed to represent ag land. It’s going to cost several hundred k and they’re not going to do jack even though the trees that dammed the bridge came from the blow out of a county (poorly) maintained road four miles up stream.

That said... this is a travesty, not being able to get help from FEMA. These people need help, and assurance.
