Walmart is closing its stores in North and Southeast Portland, saying the two locations have not met financial expectations.
The retail giant said it plans to shutter the stores at the Delta Park and Eastport Plaza shopping centers, including their pharmacies, on March 24. The company said it would work with its staff to instruct customers on how to transfer prescriptions to pharmacies of their choice. “There is no single cause for why a store closes – we do a thorough review of how a store performs and weigh many factors before making the difficult decision to close a facility,” Lauren Willis, spokesperson for Walmart, told The Oregonian/OregonLive.
The closures means that a total of 580 employees will lose their jobs, according to a notice sent to state and local officials. The workers, who are not represented by a union, were notified of their layoffs on Wednesday and that they can apply for openings at other Walmart or Sam’s Club locations. According to news reports, Walmart has announced plans to close more than half a dozen stores across the country since the beginning of the year.
Walmart operates 45 stores in Oregon. Willis said the retailer does not plan to close any other stores in the state.
The closure, however, means the retailer will no longer have a location in Portland. It also means a longer trip to a supermarket for some residents.

I could take a wild guess. ‘Loss prevention’ in that city must be a nightmare, like SF.
Northeast Portland is off MLK blvd. in the most diverse part of the state.
“Loss Prevention” is such a polite way of saying “Them ferals are stealing us blind, and they have ruined the shopping experience for law abiding customers.
We have had enough waiting for police and we can’t afford all these ex-TSA security guards, some of whom have also been observed to be stealing!”

But numerous locations just outside the city limits of Portland.

Steal from and vandalize the stores in your neighborhood. Then complain that there is a “food desert” in your neighborhood because the “racist” companies inexplicably closed their stores or they don’t set up shop there to begin with.
Wouldn’t shock me if they were losing $25,000 a day.
One issue here...for the addicted crowd, it really puts heat on them to find the remaining stores to ‘lift’ from, or drive an extra 30 miles to the next Wal-Mart to rob.
