My brick 1600+ SF house on a large corner lot was only $69k in 2002.....................
I bought my first house in California in 1985 for $20,000 less than a new truck costs these days
$95,000? Even with an $11,000 discount I wouldn’t touch it.
People don’t make major capital purchases in times of uncertainty.
Well, $84,000 is not a deal even with $11,000 knocked off. What are automakers thinking?
Only a fool would pay that much money for a truck.
Seems like a shortage.
The unions have to buy the next election.
Oh, sure. An $11,000 discount, but dealer prep is $2k, paint sealant is $6k, interior abracadabra is $3k, so yeah, $95,000. And of course, once you roll it off the lot it’s worth $29K according to Carvana.
Sooner or later they are going to realise they have priced themselves right out of business.
The vast majority of people simply can NOT afford the prices of new vehicles.
My non expert opinion is that the car business is unsustainable in its current form.
I can’t remember who and where, but just the other day someone was saying that they had been offered by a dealer a new electric vehicle for $10K. I understand electric vehicles are really stacking up at US dealers.
I found that very hard to believe, but they were pretty emphatic about it.
There is some much needless stuff on trucks today.
It is pure idiocy for anyone to buy a new truck or car these last few years especially. I can’t think of a much more stupid economic decision to make beyond just burning or flushing your money away.
Recent data from Edmunds reveals that an unprecedented 17% of American car purchasers now have monthly car payments of $1,000, a significant increase from just 7% three years ago. This trend highlights the extent to which consumers, despite being financially stretched, are willing to take on massive auto debt in these uncertain economic times as macroeconomic headwinds pile up.
Way too expensive.
My 2020 Suburban with 95K on it is worth more than I paid new.
Crazy.
Dealers were gouging in ‘22 even for used. Karma’s a bitch. Suck it.
And then you have to pay property tax and insurance on top of that!
I still have my 2002 F-150. I had to get a new truck 2 years ago and paid 38,000 dollars for a 2020 Ranger with 20,000 miles on it. The F-150 is still running great. If I have to get a new truck then I’ll buy a Japanese Kei truck. The rent is too damn high and so are price of trucks.
We have a "new" F150 SuperCrew. 2015. Just turned over 103,000 miles. The F150 pickups are perfect for the Pocatello weather. When the weather is nice, there are 9 motorcycles in the garage that get excellent mileage. All 50+ MPG. The most frugal is the Yamaha SR400 at 66 MPG.
The best access is pink slips. We have them for all the vehicles.
