Do you favor the regressive, progressive or flat tax?
Posted on 10/31/2003 8:29:28 AM PST by jimjones316
The Bush tax cuts have been very big and influential, but they still favor the progresive mode of taxing. The flat tax needs to be discussed much more and maybe implemented soon. However, the best method in my opinion has to be the regressive tax. The regressive tax rewards those who work hard and make more money by cutting the percentage of income they pay in taxes the more money they earn. I think a system that rewards those that work hard while enforcing that you will not get a free ride from the government if you are poor is the perfect system for this country, but it would never be implemented because of "it favors the rich" arguement, when really it just encourages hard work if not requires hardwork. What do you think? By the way, this is my first day here so I may have screwed up the format, if so, sorry.

Cute screenname, jimjones316. Who are you trying to mock and offend with that?
Sorry, but I don't think anyone around here will by your ridiculous argument for a regressive income tax, but the DUmmies that you probably hang out with might be stupid enough to actually believe that it was espoused by a conservative.

If you like DU ... you might be a troll.
If you have had more than two screen names at Free Republic in one week ... you might be a troll.
If you can't remember the last time you bathed ... you might be a troll.
If you think that U.S. courts should consider the rulings and opinions of the courts of other countries rather than basing their rulings exclusively on the U.S. Constitution and the laws of the U.S. and of its several states ... you might be a troll.
If you think algore really won the Florida election, but the mean old US Supreme Court wouldn't allow the rules for counting ballots to be changed to your liking ... you must be a troll.
If you think the economy would be doing better if Congress hadn't passed those piddly little tax cuts ... you must be a troll.
If you think foreign policy under an algore administration or that of any of the current democrat wannabees would make us safer from attack from our enemies ... you must be a troll.
Hey troll, this viking kitty has a message for you:

What? My name is Jim Jones. And, as immature asit may sound, I used to be a huge fan of the wrestler stone cold, who's slogan was Austin 3:16. How is that offensive? Sorry if I did, not intentional.
To: jimjones316
Austin3:16 is a mockery of the best known Bible verse of all time (John 3:16) which summarizes the Gospel and plan of Salvation. So combining the 316 reference along with the name of one of the most infamous cult leaders of the twentieth century (since you share his monicker you should certainly be aware of his infamy) is bound to raise a few hackles around here.

Just drink the kool-aid. Democrats have no chance of winning the next election. Can you really handle 4 more years of Bush. THnik about it.
To: jimjones316
Flat.
There are enough regressive forms of taxation, like the taxes on gasoline, tobacco, and alcohol.

I apologize, I was not aware of that at all, and if the 316 reference offended anyone, it was done out of ignorance and I truly apologize. I do not apologize because of my name though, even if a cult leader and the jimmy jones of the cowboy's share my name, it is still my name and I have no reason to feel guilty about it.
And how was this a democratic position. I thoiught it was a uniquely conservative idea whose time has come. I know the dems will lose in 2004, I'll vote against them. What more do you want?
To: jimjones316
NOPE. Flat tax with no loop holes is the way. That encourages people to live within their means or expand their means. I would propose, no tax on worker making $15k or less with that going to $30k for couple. Then no tax after first $10M per year. 10% across the board for everyone in between including all levels of government. If we can't run the government on 10% plus tarriffs etc. Cut it down or shut it down.

I accept your apology at face value. No need to apologize for using your real name, but be aware that combining your name with a 316 reference will give an appearance of mocking Christians whether or not that is your intent. There is nothing "republican" or "conservative" about a regressive income tax. Trying to couch a regressive tax as a conservative idea is a losing proposition.

Very similar to Dick Armey's proposal, except that his also allows additional exemptions so that a family of four would pay no tax on first $46K or so and then would pay the flat rate on everything beyong that.

The FairTax
A revenue-neutral replacement of income tax, corporate taxes, death taxes, and some others with a national retail sales tax.

I hate to say it but I don't agree with non parents paying more than parents. The parents are going to have kids in school which costs money so giving them a break is redistribution of wealth from the childless couple. Taxing both at equal rates is fair even though the childless couple requires fewer services. Other than that, I'm cool.

Furthermore, this is what we call a "vanity post" and not a particularly good one. You should refrain from these until you've been here a while.

Here is some more advice.
Black Ops
Ive seen the helicopters,
Lurking in the night.
I know that they are watching,
Hey what gives them the right?
To snoop on me and snoop on you,
Im sure theyre shooting film.
Recording every word we say,
The futures looking dim.
I think next time I hear them,
And I hope that its soon.
Im dropping trou and bending,
Im giving them the moon.
