Ben Affleck:Marriage nixed by "racist, Puritanical" America

I heard it stated on Tony Snow's show today that Ben Affleck has said his marriage to Jennifer Lopez was wrecked by a "racist, Puritanical" America that can't stand the notion of a white man marrying a Latin woman.

Previously, I had heard reports that he was blaming it on the crush of press coverage, and there are lots of stories in the press and available on the Net pertaining to that. However, I haven't been able to locate any confirmation of this apparently new statement where he blames racism. I am wondering if any Freepers have seen a published version of this statement? I hadn't heard Ben Affleck try to play the race card in this way before and I would be curious to know if it's true. Thank you in advance for any help :-)

I have not heard this before so I don't know if its true he made such a statement. If he did, all I can say is 1) I doubt that either he or his former fiancee were being discriminated against because of ethnicity or 2) if people were acting badly against her it must have been the libs in Hollywood as I doubt either of them spend too much time with schlubs like your humble narrator (me). My advise to him if he made the statement, "Get a Life!!".

It's odd that the only people today who discuss any past prohibition on marriages between people of different racial backgrounds are those pushing for the legalization of same sex marriages.

Then again Ben Affleck could have mistaken men in the hispanic community berating him for dating J-Lo. It may not have been because he was white, but because he was a dork.

Hollywood is desperate to find a new leading man sex symbol. A year ago they People mag named Ben "The Sexiest Man Alive", and that fell flat, because Ben is as exciting as stale white bread.
