What are the BEST Hamburgers? (List restaurants that serves the best)
Self | March 26, 2004 | PJ-Comix

I read something yesterday about the 50th anniversary of Burger King. Anyway, I got to thinking about the BEST burgers I've ever eaten (not Whoppers) and several came to mind including the great IN'N'Out cheeseburgers. However, in my opinion NO hamburger can compete in greatness with the UNBELIEVABLE Tommy's chili cheeseburgers served in the L.A. area. They come cover with chili and chili peppers. Add to that large tomatos and of course great meat and that burger has NO competition. Any of you who have ever eaten Tommy's Burgers know that are absolutely the best. My mouth is watering for them right now. Unfortunately South Florida has really lousy burgers (Miami Subs have good burgers but still don't hold a candle to Tommy's Burgers).

Okay, if you think you know of any burger better than Tommy's Burgers, list it here and give reasons why. However, nobody who has ever eaten a Tommy Burger can would even consider another burger as being superior.

Yes. I know folks here will post other burgers they think are the best but that is ONLY because they've never eaten a Tommy's Burger. There is NO comparison. Tommy's Burgers are WAY ahead of any other burger out there. It isn't just the taste. Oddly enough it has an incredible feel to it. Yes, it is sloppy but that is part of the appeal. I understand the guy (Tommy) who started these burgers back in 1946 used his own secret recipe for the chili. There's chili and there's chili but NO chili compares to Tommy's burgers chili, at least on the burgers.

Strange that South Florida has no really good hamburger restaurants. I am really DROOLING for a Tommy's Burger right now.

I have tried to duplicate the chili many times to no avail.
They just opened up a new Tommy's in Ventura, Ca, about a mile from my house. Jack'd deli in Westlake Village makes a good burger. Prime beef and all, but for 8.50, it leaves me limp in the wallet.

The local bowling alley of all places has full sized burgers with paper thin slices of onions that taste along the lines of White Castles. MMM Good.

Its been my experience that the best burgers are found at Mom and Pop type establishments and not the chains.

Not that I want to be flame broiled for saying it, but the Hardee Six Dollar Burger isn't bad for a fast food chain.

Of the major fast-food chains around here, I'd have to say Jack In The Box's burgers are best.

There is something DEFINITELY special about Tommy's chili. I think it is because it is made to be atop a burger. Many other Chiliburgers I've eaten that the chili tastes like a separate entitity but with Tommy's Burgers, the chili and the burgers make an integral whole. Plus there is that wonderful sloppy feel to the Tommy's Burgers.

Sorry. I've eaten those Cheeseburgers. Good but they just don't compare to Tommy's Burgers.

I have never had Tommy's so I can't compare.

In my chidhood, the best burgers were at Fossland's, on the Illinois - Wisconsin border. They re the burgers which I hold as the Gold Standard.

White Castles.

Steak 'n Shakes are probably second on my list.

Oh, and the cheeseburger deluxe at the corner luncheonette- it's two California Cheeseburgers laid out in a sub roll.

Next time you're in L.A., check out Tommy's. Make sure it is an ORIGINAL Tommy's since they are so good that there are many copycats. They go under such names as Tommie's, Tomy's, Timmy's, etc.. Once you eat a Tommy's Burger, Steak 'n' Shake burgers will go way down in your view. There is ABSOLUTELY NO burger as good as a Tommy's Chiliburger. Anybody who has ever eaten one will know this to be true.
