Quotable: A Friend's Wedding
Personal Conversations at Church | June 15, 2004 | Bobby Chang

Posted on 06/16/2004 1:27:36 PM PDT by Bobby Chang

Sunday at church I had the opportunity to speak to the daughter of a recently widowed auto mechanic who is a well-known church member, as she ties the knot for her wedding Saturday.

Me (to Anna, who ties the knot Saturday at church): "Good thing (the wedding) is now. The problem is in the future, since I now have experience in singing Italian, might I have to be brought to sing at weddings here in the future?"

Eddie (a deacon): "Bobby, we're a country church. We don't sing classical, and we don't sing Italian."

Bobby: "What?"

Ike (another deacon): "Bobby, we are backwards and we like to be that way. We sing country."

Here's the irony. They said all of that while going to services so loud they prefer loud modern-rock "modern worship" services which preach volume over message. They'd have country music on their radio stations or today's "positive hits" but won't listen to news-talk radio. And the worst part? They were the ones who punished me at church dinner for Thanksgiving last fall, harassing me to the bank and costing me a meal at church banquet and even costing me my Thanksgiving dinner because I have no honour remaining and was relegated to showing frustration like Magda Sorel (when I saw it live, a friend played her) at the end of the second act of The Consul.

Boy.... I dunno. I don't do country or Italian. Does he do Jimmy Buffett?

I don't think there's any way we'd ever know...

You know, I just cut and pasted what Babelfish gave for the English to Italian translation. I ain't so sure that's quite accurate.

This was just a humourous exchange among church members this week in regards to a wedding at church.

Totally off topic but we should all hang our heads for having missed this.
