OFFENBACH - Six out of 10 men in Germany do not shower daily, but at least those six change their underpants daily, according to a new survey published this week.
That was the national average, with over 70 percent of younger males under age 34 showering and changing knickers daily. But only 16 percent of men over 55 bother to bathe daily or put on fresh underwear.
The figures for German women show a similar age discrepancy, with over 80 percent of younger women bathing and cladding themselves with clean undergarments on a daily basis. But more than 80 percent of women over 55 go more than a day without doing so.
Some five percent of all men and two percent of women in Germany change their knickers just once a week, according to the survey by the Marplan Institute in Offenbach.

I guess these are some of the foreigners that John Kerry would feel right at home with.
Too. Much. Information....:-)
No wonder Michael Moore loves europe.
Wow. I had no idea the Germans were so much cleaner than the French.
Especially about the old ladies' underwear.
Disgusting... we change the underwear on the Iraqi prisoner's heads more often than that.
Honestly I don't know what the big deal is.
If you don't stink up alot and/or get grimy, don't waste water (and time) always bathing!
So many people worry about wasting resources, yet insist on showering/bathing every day. I know there are people who need it, but there are those of us who don't! Seriously! I don't waste water! (And yes, I have alot of German blood...we don't waste anything!)
I know I'll be pelted for this more than anything else on FR, but it's the truth!
I for one would rather use the water to get clean.
On the other hand, I'll give you this, it took guts to post what you did. :)
You bet it did!
But I'm serious - just how stinky does every1 get? No1 complains about or shrinks their nose at me! (No remarks about them being polite, thank you very much! You can tell by general reactions, too.)
Correct we have water forever. But you pay for it, at the very least, whether from your utilities co or your septic maintenance. Never mind the waste of time.
I work on a miltary base in Germany...and we used to have this putz-frau (cleaning lady) who would come by every Thursday. The minute she was within six feet of you...you could smell her. And it would be a fair assessment that she hadn't bathed that day, or the day before. I would keep a can of air freshner in the office just for her visits. I will admit she was always nice, polite, and did her job well...but the smell just got to you. The funny thing was that her husband was a garbage truck driver, and she had two part-time jobs...and she drove a almost new BMW 500 series car. She must have saving alot on water bills...to make those payments.
