For the record, I am indeed a 10th-generation Yankee. I am also an Anglophile. You sister-shagging types would definitely call me an effete elitist, as I can pronounce 'nuclear' correctly, don't live in a trailer, abhor NASCAR, country music, snowmobiling and southern accents while I prefer tea to coffee, soccer to NFL, and read the New York Times. I also hold a valid passport, which I shan't be using until the Yellow Rogue of Texas is out of the White House.

Clearly North America isn't big enough to hold all of us under one flag. What's so difficult about agreeing to an amicable separation? Afraid to lose your free ride once the federal government can no longer milk the blues dry to support your welfare farmers and ranchers?

Going alone would be a noble experiment in social anthropology. We'd have the necessary funds to develop a European style social safety net, and you redstate rednecks would quickly disintegrate into tribal fiefdoms of bickering warlords, until the ammo runs out. You could then petition to have us take you back, but we'd need to set a few ground rules (like maintaining the separation of church and state, for example).

Until then, looks like those of us with a modicum of intelligence will be subjected to an endless assault on our civil liberties as well as our aesthetic sensibilities.
