Since I know that several FReeople have, in essence, "adopted" a serviceman and others contribute in different ways, I thought all of you might find this article especially heartwarming. You just never know the impact a single act of thoughfullness or kindness may have on another person's life.
"NO GREATER GIFT: In 1943, tiny box warmed lonely Michigan soldier's heart on Christmas

by Jeff Seidel, Free Press staff writer, December 23, 2004

Christmas Eve, 1943, Bougainville Island, South Pacific

As darkness fell, the bombing began again.

Leonard Owczarzak, a 19-year-old private first class from Detroit, hunkered in a hole, firing a .50-caliber antiaircraft machine gun at Japanese bombers.

"They bombed us all night," Owczarzak remembers. "They knew damn well it was our holiday. They kept us up, all night long, continuously."

There was no pattern to the attacks. One plane. Three planes. Two planes. They seemed to come every hour, all night long"

heheheeeeee..... our Prez has whatchamacallits.....
"Bush to Renominate Judges Blocked by Democrats

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) said on Thursday he would renominate a group of controversial judicial nominees who were blocked by Senate Democrats, signaling the start of a second-term battle over the make-up of the nation's top courts.

Emboldened by his re-election victory and gains by Republicans in the Senate, Bush plans to renominate a total of 20 nominees to the nation's court of appeals and district courts, the White House said.

"The president nominated highly qualified individuals to the federal courts during his first term, but the Senate failed to vote on many nominations," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

During the hard-fought presidential campaign, Bush sought to brand Senate Democrats, who blocked 10 of his judicial nominees, as obstructionists. Democrats accused Bush of trying to tilt the courts with "right-wing extremists."

Yes, and I'm sure all 3 will look just wonderful..... 'course, the Prez always looks pretty hot himself, in a tuxedo or his ranch duds. :)

I haven't noticed, but you might know. Does President Bush wear dress western boots with his tux? I hope so.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and blessed Christmas, filled with happiness and surrounded by all those you hold dear. Please say a prayer for the safety of our troops so far away from home this Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Darks. Do you have an appropriate Gothic attire for Christmas?

Unfortunately, not this year.
It's gonna be simple blue jeans and button collar attire this year.

But, that is an improvement in a way.
*chuckle*

Merry Christmas!

Hmm...kinda late responding, sorry but that's all good...

how bad are the bugs? Because if they are not really such a problem and can easily be fixed...maybe you should come home cause we just got done making tamales and they're "supposedly" really good. :)

"I probably missed you, but hope your trip went well."

I WISH! We've just spent 2 days in hell and to top it off, the alternator went out on the car 2 miles from home, and after all that, we weren't even able to get our done OR get to Eureka Springs. We've been tangled up in traffic in Little Rock for a day and a half. When we finally got out of town, which was looking like it was never going to happen, it took nearly 6 hours to get home. We are exhausted! Tyler held up better than any of us. He was so good through all the stress.
