Stroud Receives Seven Years In Prison

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- A man was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison for assaulting a boy in a Pickerington restaurant bathroom, NBC 4's Kyle Anderson reported.

James Stroud, 23, pleaded guilty in December to one count of kidnapping and one count of gross sexual imposition.
Prosecutors said Stroud approached a 9-year-old boy in December 2003 in the restroom of the Cracker Barrel restaurant located at state Route 256 and Interstate 70.
Prosecutors said they are satisfied with the sentence.
"Unfortunately, the maximum sentence would have been 10 years if we would have gone to trial," assistant Fairfield County prosecutor Gregg Marx said. "To get 70 percent of a sentence on a plea, we're quite pleased with."
According to prosecutors, Stroud was convicted in a similar case in Columbus but served no jail time.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Police said a 9-year-old boy dining with his grandfather had just gone into the restroom of a local restaurant when someone inside tried to molest the child.
NewsChannel 4's Larry Roberts reported that the alleged incident occurred as the Cracker Barrel restaurant was packed with diners.
When the young boy tried to break away, police said the alleged assailant, James Stroud, choked him and then punched him in the stomach. Two customers heard the boy's screams coming from the restroom, Roberts reported.
"This gentleman pulled his pants down, the little boy's pants, and the boy pulled them back up," said Pickerington Police Cmdr. Steven Annetts. "Mr. Stroud decided to pull his pants down and get the little boy to touch him. The boy refused."
When police arrived, they found Stroud, 21, hiding in adjacent restroom stall. The customers who rescued the victim declined to be interviewed.
"(The customers) don't want to be called heroes, but I think they are," Annetts said. "To get involved like this, the boy has to be traumatized by this."
Stroud is charged with kidnapping, abduction, attempted gross sexual imposition, and assault.
Police said that in November, Stroud had been charged with voyeurism and child endangerment.

I remember when this story hit the news. Pickerington is a suburb (East) of Columbus, Ohio. My question then, also from others, was if this guy had problems before when he was arrested just shortyly before this incident, why was he on the street?
The gay cruising got so bad where I used to work that they posted a security guard in the bathroom. A man was caught looking over the stall at a ten year old boy. Wrong boy because his dad was NYPD and was waiting outside for him.
I agree. This is only the case we know about. I would guess there are other victims.

That poor grandfather probably feels very guilty too. Here he thought he was spending some time with his grandson and then this happens. So sad. At least it sounds like the guy didn't succeed, thanks to some alert customers.

25 to life is one reason. Even if you think the pleasure derived from the revenge was worth it, it is a pretty selfish thing to do to the children who'd be left without a parent.
