Need help finding certain pictures of the Beirut demonstrations and Arafat's funeral (vanity)
March 16, 2005 | self

This morning I was a caller on Lowell Green's radio show (CFRA, Ottawa, Canada). He is a right-wing host and a strong supporter of the United States.

The question on the table this morning was "Are Canadians more apathetic about their government than Americans. If so, why?"

So, as always when the issue of the differences between the two countries and our relationship comes up, I had to call. :)

I said, "Canadians have never had to fight for anything. They didn't have to fight for their independence from England; they don't have to work for their national defense because that's provided by the U.S."

(I should have also added that Canada didn't have to fight the bloodiest battle in its history to preserve itself as a united country. And yes, I know that the South didn't see it that way. But I think everyone can agree that the Civil War was a crucial milestone in the way we defined ourselves as a nation. But I digress...).

Then I said, "Canadians should think about what they want their country to stand for. There were American flags at the Beirut anti-Syrian demonstration, but if you check the video footage, there was the Canadian flag flying at the funeral of Yasser Arafat."

Now, I KNOW I saw those images. I saw a picture of the American flag in Lebanon on FR, but so far I can't find the thread.

And I know that I saw the Canadian flag on the CNN footage and am almost positive that someone posted a picture of the Maple Leaf being flown in that mob scene that was Arafat's funeral.

I want to send Lowell a confirmation of this but so far, I haven't happened upon the right thread.

Does anyone have these pictures? I'll forward him this thread the minute I have the two.

Thank you so much! I would really appreciate it.

I don't have it, but I remember it as well. I am pretty sure we even discussed it at length on the live thread.

I'm trying to find pics of the U.S. flag at the Beirut rally and of the Canadian flag at Arafat's funeral, to send them to a talk radio host up here.

And if anyone has the threads where those pictures are, you guys would. :)

"I am pretty sure we even discussed it at length on the live thread"

I remember that! I was watching CNN and was literally stunned to see the Canadian flag at that riot.

My first reaction was to run to the computer and get on the live thread. ;)

The problem is I don't think the Arafat funeral thread had the words "live thread" in it. I think someone reported that the crowd was rushing the fence, or something like that.

I tried "mob", "crowd", etc., but so far I haven't found it.

I'm still looking for an actual picture, but here is an article over at foxnews.com that mentions it...The green flags of the Islamic militant group Hamas (search) mingled with Palestinian nationalist flags and even a couple of French flags, seemingly in tribute to the country that had harbored Arafat in his last days. Later, a Canadian flag inexplicably waved over the crowd.rest of the story

I know you guys have a lot of contacts.

Do you know where to find pics of the U.S. flag at the Beirut demonstration and of the Canadian flag at Arafat's funeral?

Google image search gives me nothing and I'm having no luck guessing the words of the title of the thread.

Thanks in advance!

"I'm still looking for an actual picture"

Bless you, retrokitten!

Inexplicably, indeed. And yeah, I remember freepers talking about that. Maybe I'll have to scroll waaayyy back in my "comments" b/c I know I mentioned it.

I'll go try that.

I know that you guys, as well, know a lot of people here.

Might I impose on you to ask for help in finding pictures of the U.S. flag at the Lebanese rally and of the Canadian flag at Arafat's funeral?

Thank you so much... :)

Hmmm. I wrote your name out on the earlier ping but it didn't show up.

You know a lot of people. Can you help me find pics of the U.S. flag at the Lebanese demonstration and of the Canadian flag at Arafat's funeral?

I'm certain I saw them on FR. I'd really appreciate it--I want to send proof to a talk show host.

"FReeper Allouette (spelling is wrong, I just know it) may be able to help."

Thank you so much, Fierce Allegiance!

Next time there's something special, I'm bookmarking it.

It drives me crazy when I try to find something in the interior of a thread and I can't remember the exact words of the title.

And I wasn't sure of the spelling either but I'll keep trying to post to Alouette until I get it right. :)

Not exactly a flag, but certainly an "Old Glory" bandana. Still looking...
