48% here, too. Odd, for someone who has lived almost his whole life within 50 miles of NYC.

Aw hell, watch out ya'll! Supposedly, I am related to Sam Houston. Although, he was pro-Union (or at least anti-slavery), I believe.

From wikipedia.com regarding Sam Houston:

"After the annexation of Texas by the United States in 1845, he was elected to the U.S. Senate together with Thomas Jefferson Rusk. Houston served there from February 21, 1846 until March 4, 1859. He was considered a potential candidate for president. But, despite the fact that he was a slave-owner, his strong Unionism and opposition to the extension of slavery alienated the Texas legislature and other southern States, especially with his support of the Oregon Bill (1848) and the Compromise of 1850 and his opposition to the Kansas-Nebraska Act. He was a lame duck senator from 1857.

He ran for governor of Texas, unsuccessfully in 1857 and successfully in 1859, making him the only person in U.S. history to be the governor of two different states. He resigned in March 1861 following his refusal to take an oath of loyalty to the Confederacy. He was replaced with Edward Clark, having refused the use of force to prevent the secession."

Interesting.

Odd since I was born in NYC, lived almost all my adult life in California and now live in Texas.

Although when in grammer school my parents lived for a short period of time in Texas (McAllen) and Florida (Miami)

So I probably have a lot of different ways to say things.

79% Southern. My dad is from Michigan, so maybe that's where the other 21% comes from. Do you know how Yankees are like hemorrhoids? When they come down and go back up, they're ok. When they come down and stay, they're a real pain in the a@%.

True. I feel rather confident that Houston was anti-Slavery. I don't really know how he felt about succession.

Just the opposite. He was a slave owner, but was strongly against Texas secession, and said so loudly --- as Texas governor in 1861, he refused to take a loyalty oath to the Confederate government, and as a result was impeached by the fire-eaters in the legislature. He predicted, accurately, that slavery, the South, and Texas, would be destroyed in a war with the North.

Don't worry, I've taken this test before and it's completely bogus.

Example: How do you pronounce route?

The site claim that "rhymes with clout" is strongly biased Northeast, which is completely wrong. Anyone in the Boston area knows it's "root".
