I haven't decided whether I want to fully 'geek out' and do the Wednesday show.

I know one of the managers at the local theatre so he will save me a seat...

This is the one we've been waiting for. I couldn't imagine seeing it any other way than in full geek mode, surrounded by my fellow nerds. LOL! I am no longer in denial.

It's a frickin' space opera...Buck Rogers with better graphics. Lucas is laughing a wookie laugh while the bucks roll in.

The critics have been kind this time too, Lucas knew all was on the line here and even brought in Speilburg for assistance.

I'm an Original Trilogy fan. Have been since 1983. My attic
is full of collectible toys and I have a lightsaber autographed by Mark Hamill. I've loved most things about the Galaxy Far, Far Away for a long time, and I was an adult in '83, so this isn't some 'my childhood memories have been ruined' thing.
I'm not going to see ROTS. I didn't see AOTC.
Lucas lost me at TPM. That was sad. 20 years, unlimited funds and technology and we got that.
I should envy those of you who anticipate this film and who will enjoy it, but I don't.
You should envy me- because I remember when SW was a 'modern myth', and aspired to be more than a 'kiddie movie'.
Lucas can tell whatever story he likes, the way he likes- but the Prequel films will never be incorporated into 'my' Star Wars.
It's part of the culture now- deeply personal- and it hasn't belonged just to Lucas in a long time. Whatever he set out to make- it has passed into modern myth in a way. He can ruin it for some by making it a stupid commercial for toys, but not for everyone.
What he's done is serve up a Star Wars buffet.
I'll pass the creamed cauliflower and liver( the PT) and go for the good stuff,( the OT). Bon appetit!

I thin Lucas has returned to his roots with this film. No more kid stuff...

I'll wait as long as it takes to see this movie when it is sold on DVD.

My desire to see this movie is vastly overcome by my grumpy desire to avoid:
a) Noisy, rude children of all ages
b) Smacking open-mouth chewing imbeciles
c) Slurping drink noises from said imbeciles
d) Smells of an unknown nature
e) Cell-phones ringing during the movie
f) Sticky floors (and seats and arm-rests)
g) Unsolicited geekish comments that will surely be uttered aloud during the film (just to show everyone how clued in they are)
h) Screaming babies because the "parents" won't/can't get a sitter so they choose to inflict upon everyone their little darlings temper-tantrums

Just me talking.

CUT from Cannes Film Festival:

Cannes film festival (May 11-kick off), star wars raises questions of U.S. imperialism http://www.freenewmexican.com/news/13776.html
DAVID GERMAIN | Associated Press
May 15, 2005

Cannes audiences made blunt comparisons between "Revenge of the Sith" _ the story of Anakin Skywalker's fall to the dark side and the rise of an emperor through warmongering _ to President Bush's war on terrorism and the invasion of Iraq.

Two lines from the movie especially resonated:

"This is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause," bemoans Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman) as the galactic Senate cheers dictator-in-waiting Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) while he announces a crusade against the Jedi.

"If you're not with me, then you're my enemy," Hayden Christensen's Anakin _ soon to become villain Darth Vader _ tells former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). The line echoes Bush's international ultimatum after the Sept. 11 attacks, "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."

"When he says, 'If you're not with me, then you're my enemy," it's a flagrant reference to Bush," said 22-year-old Thomas Tiez, a French student who saw the film at Cannes. "That can't be a coincidence."

"That quote is almost a perfect citation of Bush," said Liam Engle, a 23-year-old French-American aspiring filmmaker. "Plus, you've got a politician trying to increase his power to wage a phony war."

Though the plot was written years ago, "The anti-Bush diatribe is clearly there," Engle said.

The film opens Wednesday in parts of Europe and Thursday in the United States and many other countries.

We've got lucky in that a new high class megaplex opened in our neighborhood, and they ban most children under 14 not accompanied by a parent.

But most parents these days don't even know how to control their kids...

Amen to these two! Food shouldn't make noise. I'm for the outlaw of chips, popcorn, ice, crunchy candy, etc...if it makes noise when you chew it, open mouthed or otherwise, ban it from the theater. Smackers should be sent to the nearest cow pasture as punishment.

To dine on the abundance of cow patties (on whole wheat, of course).

I'll give it a few weeks and hit a matinee when the theater is less full...

True, to combat this I usually go to a late 10:00pm showing, but that doesn't always work.
