Please help. My toolbar was highjacked now I have: Online Casinos Online Dating Online Drugs!
I just bought Spydoctor and it did not erase the toolbar does anyone know how to get my original toolbar back? I think I just wasted my money again! Thanks!
Try this: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
what operating system & browser are you using ?
If that doesnt work...revert to the last known good configuration...
what system are you running? Microsft XP?
I am also getting email from German Witches!
You could try add/delete programs in your control panel. It may be listed there.
Ad-Aware and Spybot Search&Destroy are both free programs that generally work well at removing such things.
I did have something loaded that was redirecting my browser (I.E. only). Eventually it went away but nothing I ran could detect it.
I also had McAffee anti-virus and it did not detect it.
Also try "View", "Toolbars", and see if its listed there. If it is, uncheck it.
Yes XP I just paid 30.00 and it says I have 346 Threats on my computer
Is this the MYSEARCH bar? That's a tough one.
Get Spysweeper (it's free -- Google it). It does a pretty good job of eradicating the nasties.
Then pledge you will ALWAYS stay out of dark Internet neighborhoods! :-)
"A computer virus spewed neo-Nazi-tinged spam in English and German into inboxes over the weekend. The virus, first spotted on Thursday, sends out a blast of e-mail to addresses found on infected PCs."
I have Norton and it did not do diddly squat!
Sorry about your trouble.
"Hijack This" is a very useful free utility, but very dangerous as well. Use with caution.
yeah and it probably installed 345 of them....
you should go with Norton....
On the Links Bar of the Toolbar I use to have my bank Freerepublic, the hospital I work for..Now the links on the Toolbar is Online drugs, casinos and dating service?
Either you've fallen under the spell of the Dark Side or you've been hijacked!
Peeps on this thread have some good ideas on how to de-toolbar-ify you. Good luck, Missy!
Lots of goodies here:
Is Hijack this free?
|Browser Wars, take two
various FR links | 12-22-04 | The Heavy Equipment Guy
...and let your compiler of links drop out of Lurk & Link mode for comment and advice:
Ditch IE. Honest to God, almost anything else will give you fewer problems. Try and compare- use IE, then run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy... then try another browser and repeat. You will be stunned at the garbage IE attracts.
Keep your OS updated & patched.
Run a hardware firewall-- with today's LAN's, it's easy. You need a hardware firewall.
Thanks bachoe and everyone!
I am only like 1/4 Computer Saavy!
about halfway down.
And/or do a system restore to a date before your browser was hijacked
Did I properly ID your German witches?
You may look into that virus.
Norton Internet Security has blocked access to this restricted site.
Try a combo of Spybot & AdAware. Between the two, they'll kill most all. Then get yourself a good firewall. AVG and Norton have both worked for me. After all that, Get a router, even if you only have one computer. That will give you one more layer of protection. Not overnight I know, but get there, it's worth it !!!!
NO but I will check out that virus too! 346! I have I hate my computer maybe I just get another one! This Lap top has to many problems...
Are they free..I just paid 30.00 for the Spy doctor?
PS... Are they offering you Dating, at a Casino, while doing Drugs ?????
Is it free"?
WOW, FreepMail me with the details.....I need to sign up .... LOL
Spybot finds it and claims to eliminate it, but it always comes back (for a while I suspected FR was infecting me). "Add/Delete" programs of course did not work.
Will Spysweeper do the trick?
Try the freeware ToolBarCop. It's very nifty and works well. Just google it.
Stop visiting porn and online gambling sites and you won't have this problem....
Dang! My computer's acting zncvidhf8ry9q3uyg9g 7yhb-79ayeg79.....
I don't go to Porn or Gambling Silly, why would I FReerepublic encompasses all. LOL...
So go to Google and Type in what? then what do I need to do? I like need AH! Girl Map directions..LOL..
I've used them all and a combination of AdAware (free), Spybot Search & Destroy (free) and Spysweeper (I'm thinking of buying because it's so good) is the best bet for most users. Don't be afraid of installing these. They are free and easy to install. But most of all, stop using MSIE.
OK, this is just general advice-- there are several ways to proceed, but one path:
1- download & install AVG, (free) and update it.
2- download & install Ad-Aware SE (free). Update it.
3- reboot in "Safe Mode"-- this is usually done by tapping the F8 key during boot-up. A menu offering several choices will appear, pick "safe mode" and proceed. Be warned, it is very slow to boot like this.
4 - now run Ad-Aware with a "full system scan" and let it clean out the nasties. Follow that with AVG-- you want it to scan everything.
5- reboot normally and run an online internet scan just to be sure-- Trend Micro and Panda are very good. So are bitdefender or RAV.
Be advised of two things-- the above is not gospel- some people swear by Avast and Spybot Search & Destroy... you need one that get viruses, and one for spyware, because they look for different things.
The other thing is some of this new malware regenerates, and is incredibly hard to eradicate. It can be done, but if a few tries with some of the things I and others mentioned don't work, you need to join a forum, learn what format they use, and ask for help.
Good luck- malware propagators should be horsewhipped, in public.
Your right! IBuse that e all the time! Okay I will do it!
Thanks so much BSR!
I'd give it a shot -- though MYSEARCH is, as you say, a pernicious little bug. Your mileage may vary.
Thanks SO Much !!!
Yes you are right! Them and Telemarketers should be horsewhipped!
OKAY: I am working on it now!
The most thorough is Trendmicro ( virus, trojan, spyware and security holes )--
Some other good ones:
Do not use MS Internet Explorer, except for the sites ( like MS! ) that won't accept anything else-- get FireFox, or Opera, or even Netscape. IE is a popup and virus magnet.
You need a hardware firewall, too. How? Set up a home network, either wired or wireless. Even if you have only one PC, put it behind a modern Ethernet router-- all the new ones have a NAT firewall, and it filters out a load of garbage. Every hour, my router's log show dozens of "unrecognized attempts" by random port scans. You won't know how many intrusions are tried until you get a LAN ( local area network ) and see the logs. It's awful out there in 'netland nowadays.
The good news? New members with cute female names ( like yours ) seem to get the fastest attention. Sexism? Who cares, if it works to your advantage. Use what ya' got, is what I always say.
