I'm desperate for help... (Computer/AOL issues)
The depths of AO-Hell ^ | 6/6/2005 | Me

I know, this isn't exactly politically or socially oriented, but I've exhausted the web for help, and you guys are my last resort.

I'm trying to figure out why I can't print ANYTHING from AOL... I can open a page in another browswer or save a picture elsewhere and print with no problems whatsoever, but when trying to use the "Print" button from within AOL, I get nothing.

I've searched all over AOL's website, googled every combination of "AOL" + "Print" you can imagine, and I get nothing. (Well, except for other people who seem to have the same problem, albeit with no solution).

ANY kind of advice would greatly be appreciated. (Save for switching ISPs... it's not my computer :D)

Have you tried printing from "File", which is on the far left of your screen at the top? Right under "America Online"? Just above the mailbox icon.

yep, to no avail.

I'm getting a "status" box (from AOL) that says printing is in progress, but my printer's doing nothing.

Again, the printer is working properly, and I can print from other applications.

You might try logging out and restarting AOL.

Shut your computer down and reboot, re-log on to AOL and hit print.

Also, AOL "help" allows members to speak with someone online.

Shut your computer down and reboot, re-log on to AOL and hit print.

That's worth trying as well.

It is amazing how many people never shut down their computers daily for a fresh boot.

A computer should be shut down and rebooted at least once a day (or once every 8 hours).

Exactly. It's also the first thing I do when any problem arises.

Really, that much? I reboot every few days, but never once a day. I'm surprised at the number of people who never reboot, run scandisk/defrag etc. It's just simple maintenance.

Of course, it doesn't hurt to do it every day.

I know you don't want to hear this - but DUMP AOL!!!

It's crap and has been for years.

They don't deserve the # of customers they have for the way they treat them and the incredibly backward technology that they use.

/sorry - had to get it off my chest.

Have you got print jobs backed up in the cache? Clear them first. Try again.

Just follow these simple steps...

1) Log onto your AOL browser, find another service provider and sign up.

2) Use your AOL disk for target practice.

That should take care of the problem. Oh, just one warning...MSN is not any better than AOL.

It has been a long time since I have been around anyone who uses AOL.

I assume that you are wanting to print something that is part of the AOL interface and not something where you could open up another browser window by reducing you AOL window and pasting the AOL URL addy into the other browser window, then hit print?

Sigh.

Yeah, I know.... I'm helping out my ex-boyfriends mom who is technologically challenged. One of her other sons pays for the connection, so she really doesn't have any motivation to change ISPs. Lord knows I've tried to get her to go with something like NetZero, Earthlink, or Everyone's Internet.

When I first got a hold of her computer, it was running SOOOO slow. I did a little digging and found her system so full of spyware/adware it wasn't even funny...

yeah... I can print when I open the site with IE, or if I "save image" and print from a picture editing progie, but not from the AOL interface.
