ZOT! Military Recruiting Drive

I am trying to start a recruiting campaign to help out our military with their current recruiting shortage. One of my buddies is working as a recruiter right now and he told me about all the problems he is facing. I figured FR would be the best place to come to put something like this together because of the political leanings and the willingness to stand up and fight against terrorism. I've been here before and mostly perused the site without joining but i thought this was important enough to join. Basically what i am trying to do is start a grassroots campaign of teachers, football coaches, parents, etc. of the conservative mindset that would be willing to try and recruit one person each to serve in the military. They recently raised the age to 38 for the reserves so even some us old timers might have a go at it.
If you can help please feel free to e-mail me or post any ideas about getting something like this started.

Sniff...sniff
Something smells fishy. Even from all of the way out here on the USS CARL VINSON, something about this post has a determined "chum" odor to it.
I'll watch to see how the replies lean...but maybe I'm just one of the first in on a ZOT! and that's what I smell.
To: tongue-tied
LOL!
Yeah, it has the odor of a 4 day old, sun-baked mackeral!
Funny how the MSM gets it wrong. The Marine Corps reenlistment numbers are so high, that the Commandant AGAIN had to request to the Congcritters that the qouta get tweaked to allow them all to reup! Not to mention that this trend has been going on EVER SINCE Klintoon left office!

I've been around long enough to know the mods are watching you very closely at this point. I want to know more from you. What are your thoughts on conscription? Have you served?

Agree with leadpenny. I would also add:
- Did you help your buddy out with his problem by signing up yourself?
To: tongue-tied; bohdi777
Not "where is everybody?"
Where is bohdi777?

I agree with you too. Many of us are too old. If I were 25 years younger, I'd be in Iraq or Afghanistan now.

I don't remember anyone having a fit when Clinton was CIC, and just about everyone in the military was having to do recruit duty at one time or another. People were leaving by the droves and no one one wanted in.

Well, there was a little event we call 9-11 between Clintoon and W, so it's hard to compare anything between the two, except to say that the Clintons helped bring on the attack.
As for the CinC influencing who enlists and when, I don't know? I enlisted during the JFK years and one of my sons enlisted late in the W41 years. I don't believe their politics influenced either of us. It was relatively peaceful in 61 and 92, put for those enlisting in the late 60s or after 9-11 - the world changed a bit.

We are a military family and I can tell you that I know plenty of former military that just would not serve under Clinton.

The Proper Salute

This may sound offensive because I don't support what the Nazi salute represents but I think anyone that comes across Ann Coulter or Sean Hannity at any of their speeches or functions or out on the street should throw them the Nazi salute and give them a loud Zieg Heil. Do it like you are a fan, not someone that dislikes them.

I joined right after Ronald Reagan took over, and decided the hostages had been there long enough.
1) If I had gotten out while clinton was signing the Letters Of Appreciation for military service, I would have shredded it.
2) If I get out within the next year or so, I'll have G.W. Bush's signature proudly displayed.
3) If I go all the way 30, I can only hope it will be signed by someone I truly respect.
4) If we keep getting extended in the 'Gulf, I may do a cruise like some of you old(er) timers used to do; 10-12 months.
To: bohdi777
I'm an Air Force vet 72-76 but they won't take a 51 year old.
You're a troll and they won't take those either.
Run along.

I sent away for one of those Cold War certificates years ago. It's stuffed away somewhere. IIRC, it's signed by Cohen. Not going to waste a frame on that.

Hmmm, a Multi Level Marketing approach to military recruiting. Perhaps you could check with Amway/Alticor and have them put together a package they could offer their distributors ;-)

I don't think who is CIC matters much. They couldn't meet recruitment goals in the Clinton years and aren't even coming close to meeting those goals now. Kids now want to go to college and then find a job. They sure as hell don't want to put theirselves in harm's way. The CIC doesn't matter for recruiting as few kids can even name the VP, much less the president
