Just moved to a town that has no electronic store where I can view models before buying. So I'm forced to buy online. I'm looking for a 42" Plasma HDTV. There are so many out there. Anyone have any experience to relate??? Thank you so much!!!
I'm not too bright when it comes to electronics. However, we looked at plasma tv's, and they guy at the store said to just buy a flat panel instead. He said the plasma technology is cool, but if it breaks you cannot get it fixed.
Make sure you get one that is HD ready!!!Costco has good prices, FYI.
=)
Maybe this will be frustrating for you, but I recommend LCD over plasma. Plasma is subject to burn-in and I understand brightness or sharpness can fade over time.
Just a thought.
Don't even have a Costco around here! Although they are building a Sam's Club about a mile away, but that won't be open for another 3 months!!!
Sorry...I didn't mean to put it in News. I'm slapping myself right now!
Get a TV with DLP technology. Try to stay away from Plasma. They do not have a long life.
Instead of plasma, consider a Sony 42" LCD projection TV. It's slim and it comes with built in speakers, surround system, tuner, the works. I love it.
For most plasmas you'd have to buy a separate tuner, speakers, etc. Plus, a neighbour of mine has one and the individual pixels are starting to burn out. On the LCD projection TV you just change the LCD bulb every 6,000 hours or so.
That's what I'm hearing. So in a nutshell, the only really good thing about plasma is its thin size, huh? Maybe I will go with something else.
What model is that Sony????
What model is that Sony????
Perhaps you can shop Costco online? (I have no idea).
Hey- how about this, i'll buy one for you at Costco and ship it to you. 15% handling fee ;)
The LCD panels, especially the Samsung and Sharp, are better but are also thousands more.
Stick with LCD.
Be wary of the DLP technology. I'm not saying you shouldn't get one, but read up on it first and be sure it is what you want. I understand they rely on tiny moving parts. I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong on that. OTOH, I would never buy a TV that relies on moving parts.
ouch, that's gotta hurt ... okay, all is forgiven, stop doing that! =)

There are in the market now picture tube TVs that are not as deep as traditional picture tube TVs. The one I saw was a 34" and at most a foot deep. Sort of half way between the thinness of a plasma and the bulk of a traditional picture tube TV. Plus the price of these new picture tube TVs are comparable to the traditional ones. Sharpness was as good.
Don't buy a Plasma. There are at least three better cheaper choices.
