The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh NO! What a sleaze bag. I sure hope they throw the book at the guy. You feel so violated when someone does something like that. What the heck are they doing with him, if he has done this before? No proof, I bet.

Well we are studying to become free-range pasture farmers, no hormone additives or chemicals. Also deaconjim is a seasoned bee keeper and will continue there and I will probably set up a cottage meat pie business. I already have an outlet!

I am an inexperienced rider and these horses have been on this trail so many times that what I say or do means almost nothing to them.

Even if you are experienced, it's so hard to get these hack horses out of their routine. You did an excellent job handling a very scary situation. It will make you a better rider in the long run. It would be great for you, to be able to ride the same horse each time. Riding different horses, is ok, but if you can ride the same one, it will build your confidence.

That sounds wonderful. There should be a high demand for organic meats. It would be so nice to be self-suffient like that. A lot of hard work, and hours, but certainly worth it.

There is a high demand. More people are becoming aware of increased diseases which are rampant due to disgusting diets and poor conditions, of your average cattle, chicken and other FACTORY animals. If nothing else we want to supply an alternative to our children. Just take a look at a free-range egg and a store bought egg and the difference is incredible. The difference in end results in baking etc is amazing and definatly worth the slightly higher price.
It is going to be hard work, but we are very excited about it.

It's a beautiful sunny warm day, and here I am inside playing on PC. I was out until 3 A.M. this morning, and don't feel like doing a thing. We went to Mountaineer race track and casino in West Virgina (about an hour's drive). Won some and lost a lot..lol

Hair, I bet the gray horses. This 4 yo filles won by 7 lengths! She is beautiful. Her name is Louve Sauvage. I talked to her owners, and they were elated. This was her first race.

This is a 5 yo mare named Finessable. She came in second.

Two other grays I bet on didn't place. This was the most gorgeous pony horse.

I would have done alright, if I would have stayed out of the casino! It was fun though.

I just haven't had a chance to see which horse and I "click".

Katy was way too slow and didn't want to be bothered with me. Foyt obviously has issues with pecking order. Of course, I'm mostly to blame in that I allow their bad behavior because of my lack of confidence.

I figure I'll have a new horse the next time I go. I'm hoping that I will find the "right" one once I'm on him/her.

This may not be a realisitic expectation though.

I want to be able to get a horse I feel good about and stick with that horse.

Like you say, it might not be all that realisitic, but you are on the right track. It might be possible to "reserve" that particular horse when you find him/her.

Veggies too. A world of different in home grown and store bought. You let me know when you start selling shares in your business. :')

Win a little, lose a little! Neat that you can get close to the horses at the track, great pictures!

Good article! Thanks for the link. : )
We plan to grow vegetables too, in fact we already do here. They taste completly different from the store bought ones, so much fresher with more flavour. : ) The kids feel good that they have grown something so yummy!

Ruthy, I look forward to you coming back up here one day when you can go riding with us!

Here's pics from our ride today.... we spent a lot of time in the shady cool areas by the creek.... it was as hot as it looks up on top in the sun.

We wanted to get some good shots of the horses crossing the bridges, since they seem sortof interesting to folk. We also made a movie of ecurbh crossing the bridge if you're interested: Bridge crossing - avi (Windows Media)

I'm in the creek on Bay to get these shots.

She was glad to be back with him... she'd never gone in front, or alone on the bridge before ;~D

This was enough to make Bay nervous... he's never seen small people appear in the river before ;~D

ecurbh leading for awhile:

Climbing up to the top of the ridge, ecurbh is on the switchback below me.

And that's it for today. We cut the ride pretty short, partly because Bay felt a little off... he was plodding along slow and tired, and just seemed 'off'. So... we only went about 4-5 miles. It was a lot of hard climbing anyhow, so it was like real work. We stopped to rest awhile and turned around, and Bay's speed doubled and he felt great on the way home. Isn't that something! ~rolls eyes~

However, when we got back and I unsaddled, I noticed that Bay's Cashell cushion that usually goes between his pad and the saddle was forgotten in the tack room. It's the little wedge pad that is made to fit him to keep my saddle from bridging. So who knows, maybe that's why he was slow, he was backsore. I sure felt back to have forgotten it. I should know by now that if he's off, there's a reason.

Heh... well, it isn't high drama, but I thought I'd try another movie after the accidental one from last time.... there's definately a place for short movies in showing people what things are like, and I'm trying to learn how to shoot them steadier, it's hard to not look herky jerky. Movies while moving down trail so far are shaky enough to make you seasick ;~D

It's Becky I really wanted to see it, and hear it, because she wondered how the horses take the bridges, and Cyn was obviously walking it pretty steady.... you can't see that in a snapshot. Unfortunately I don't think Becky will be able to play it.... she's not had good luck so far.

your right, no proof. Luckily, another neighbor (the guy who keeps an eye on our place and noticed the breakin)got a call from this guy to work on his truck. /When he went over, he saw the rug and the print.

He did the right thing and told us and volunteered to report it. I feel bad because he is good friends with this creeps father. Hated to put him in the middle but he's a good guy and said he would do it.
