Smoking among our soldiers
Juky 21, 2005 | self / vanity

I have been concerned that so many of our soldiers seem to smoke. This includes the woman at the Abu Gaibe (sp?) imprisonment camp.

Don't you think that it would be better if this were restricted, at least to when they they are not on duty?

That way, it would be be safer, both for them and for those around them.

No kidding, I was just trying to pull that up to show a co worker.

The editing scraps from my previous post are not pretty. You do not want to see them.

Can't. They are just deleted electrons. BTW, where do the deleted letters go when you delete them?

You have obviously never served your country. When you don the BDU's your opinion about this subject will matter. Until then STFU and enjoy the freedoms that smokers like me have presented to you.

I believe they're in some sort of giant cosmic recycle bin, waiting to be permanently wiped from hard drives our lives.

(LOL Ok, that was the best I could do under pressure.)

Dude! Smoking has always been a part of the military. After getting shot the first thing a soldier wants is his Momma and a smoke.

I have an even better idea, in the interest of the health of our soldiers, let's withdraw them from all dangerous situations.

LOL You're right. You didn't.

I occasionally find myself suffering from posting performance anxiety. The pressure was self-inflicted. ;-)

They have meds for PPA (Posting Performance Anxiety)? I had no idea. And I discovered the syndrome. I deserve a huge government grant to study it.

It's main form is called Budweiser. There are several other forms usually lumped into the category "alcohol".

Good lord.

They're adults, they should be able to choose, as should anyone in any work place. We're suppose to be a free nation.

Oh, yes. Alcohol works for several different types of performance anxiety, doesn't it? ;-)

The biggest mistake I ever made was to get hooked on tobacco. However, I was an adult, and made the choice of my own free will.
Constant preaching by puritans, if anything, just aggravated me into lighting up another smoke.
You use the word "allowed", with some frequency. Is this consistent with the view that we are a free people? Will you next be telling me what else I am "allowed" to do?
I no longer smoke. I do still love a shot of good Bourbon, now and then, and have some really nice old guns. If you believe for a minute that this is because you "allow" it, best you know how wrong you are.

"Are you allowed to smoke, eat continuously, drink alcohol, wear what ever you want, swear continuously or do any other bad habits or inappropriate things on your job or for that matter when you were on duty?"

Yes to all the above. I own my own business. My office is in the rear complete with ashtrays and the "Executive Wet Bar." I eat whatever I want, whenever I want.

But seriously, I think you have overestimated our interest in your opinion.
