US movie star Tom Cruise, 43, and his fiancee, actress Katie Holmes, 27, are expecting a baby together, a spokeswoman for the actor says.
News that Holmes is pregnant with Cruise's child was first reported by People magazine on its website.
"I can confirm that," spokeswoman Marlan Willard said, but added she had no information about a due date or any other details.
A statement from Cruise's chief publicist said "Tom and Katie are very excited and the entire family is every excited".
No wedding date for the couple has been set.
Cruise and Holmes began dating in mid-April and he proposed to her in June at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, announcing their engagement the next day at a news conference.
A month earlier, Cruise had drawn sniggers and raised eyebrows with a manic, couch-hopping appearance on Oprah Winfrey show, professing his love for the actress.
The twice-married Cruise, currently shooting the action movie Mission: Impossible III adopted two children, Connor, 10 and Isabella, 12, with former wife Nicole Kidman.
Poor kid doesn't have a chance. Sure, he'll have all the money that he can possibly hope to spend; but he'll be messed up.

My first thought is that I assumed he could not father children. He has been married twice and has two adopted children. It is curious indeed.
Yeah, that is kind of weird. Maybe this time, he had the aliens plant her with artificial fertilization.

My first thought was hmm, meet a young starlet, publicly slobber all over her, marry her and knock her up all within 6 months-what a great example for his two preteen children. I'm sure they won't have any trouble at all adjusting to this.
Of course, those children probably have no idea what a normal life is like anyway, so maybe they won't.

My thoughts exactly. He got somebody else to do the honors. And with those two as parents, this will be one messed-up kid.
I think when we waste bandwidth and/or time on televisions shows applauding immorality, it speaks as to the degree of dullness to which we've sank as a people.
Instead of being embarassed that people who practice open immorality are paid millions of dollars and are rewarded for their lifestyle, we are fixated in a state of worship that rivals a religious fervor.
