Need Advice ~ Army Reserves
October 8, 2005 | Jemian

Posted on 10/08/2005 3:50:46 PM PDT by Jemian

My son, also a freeper, just completed his BASIC and AIT training. He returned home Thursday night at 2200. He is supposed to report to his Reserve Unit within 72 hours.

But no one has been at his unit. JT's gone over there, telephoned and left call back numbers on the answering machine. He is worried about not making contact and being considered AWOL.

Has anyone ever experienced this? What is the usual plan of action?

At present he's planning to keep phoning through Monday, but not travel back there until Tuesday. It takes a little over an hour to get to his unit and doesn't want to spend the gas unless someone will be there.

Seems to me like a phone call Monday morning to see if anyone's there is in order. He can make a decision about traveling there after the call.

He's going to do just that. We're thinking that since Monday is a holiday, no one will be there. That's why he's going to wait until Tuesday before driving back there.

Make a phone call. I'm sure there is an answering machine. Leave the time and date you called. Use a cell phone. The phone call can be easily verified.

Sounds like they just want him to check in so that they know he's completed his training obligation, and so that they can get ahold of him if they need him...deployment, etc.

If there is nobody at the contact number for his unit, then there's no way he can report in short of going there.

Is it possible he has the wrong number to contact the Personnel Section at the unit? I know, not likely, but...

Does he know anyone near the unit who can run interference for him?

Let me think if I can remember which of our FReepers are also reservists, and I'll ping them to your question.

He has made the phone calls and has left his numbers on the answering machine. He's called from a cell and there is a record. Your advice is good and he's done it.

We're sure that it is the right number because of the machine. He did attempt to report in personally today. What I'm hearing y'all say is that he's done what is expected and to keep at it until he makes contact. But he isn't to worry much as he has made a verified attempt. Right?

Suggest that he report to your local recruiting station and have the Army Recruiter contact his (your son's) major headquarters. Advise them of the problem and go from there.

He's done that and will keep trying that as well until contact is made. Thanks. Good idea.

I think the Army Reservist should call his headquarters in D.C. and go active duty immediately because of all the trouble we are having in Iraq. I mean wow!! What a complete mess! It is ridiculous the level of incompetency that is present over there. They need help like yesterday!

I have been coming in here with multiple IP's over and over again. You cannot restrict free speech no matter how much you may want to. Even if you "ZOT" me I will keep coming back and back and back. Not only that, but why are you deleting these free thoughts? Are you afraid of what might happen to people like you if people are allowed to think freely? You are sort of like a Nazi!

Wow well it looks as if Wifi can emulate troll accounts. I guess the geniuses at Free Republic are seeing that their troll finding methods are ridiculous and basically not for free Americans who enjoy free speech. Leave finding Trolls to actual people who can find Trolls. Geesh! Give me a break! How incompetent can you be?

Dumbass, this is a privately owned and operated website, they can delete whoever they want. Go start your own blog that nobody reads if you're so concerned about free speech.

Privately owned and operated it may be, but it certainly does not celebrate free speech and I am Liarliar Breakerdown and HarveyKliar. You figure it out. Republican systems don't work and never will.

My private property rights trump your free speech rights on FR. Look it up. And while you're at it, look up the definition for moron.

Get off the forum Moron!!

And don't let the door hit ya on the way out.
