MORFORD: Eat My Holiday Cheer

Screw joy and togetherness. It's all about retail, just like Jesus would have wanted.
Does it not feel more manic and insane this year? Is there not more commercial pressure and consumerist mania and does it not seem increasingly surreal and obnoxious and silly? Or is it all relative and it just seems more utterly intolerable because we've had 10 months to try and forget the last holiday season's odious marketing-shopping miasma?

Morfordite AlertYou know what that means. Don't go there and then complain about what you found.

I think that I am going to adopt the LIB tactic of arguing ALL sides of a topic at once. Morford complains about Christians and the Evil Religious Right all year long and now he wants to say that Christmas is too SECULAR and it demeans what Jesus would want?
Mark, COME ON!

Nah Mark, it's about keeping the kresh away from city hall, and scrubbing any mention of Jesus from the public square. Put up a "Holiday Tree" and a "Candle Thingy" for our Jewish friends.

Drive all the religious and spiritual meaning out of Christmas - excuse me, "Holiday" -- and then complain that it's too materialistic.
Ho-kay. . . .

"for most people, getting together with family around the holidays is akin to having your fingernails yanked out by a chain saw in an ice storm, naked." No, "most" people don't see it that way. Serious projection by the author, I suspect.

If Morford were part of the family, I can understand the preference for the chainsaw.

Oddly enough I found myself agreeing with a lot of his rant. Except for the family part. I love being with my family just as much as his family loves not being with him.
Oooh, and he gave me a new tagline.

True, but I have to pass on a lot due to posting rules.
