Movie producers have given assurances to Katherine residents that a new horror film Rogue shot at the Nitmiluk National Park in the Northern Territory will not scare tourists away.
On-site production on the film about a seven-metre crocodile stalking a tourist boat on the Katherine Gorge wrapped up earlier this month.
Katherine's Mayor Ann Shepherd says the film-makers made it clear the movie would be good for tourism in the area.
"Particularly for the Nitmiluk Gorge, the Katherine River and the surrounds and I think that'll certainly happen," she said.
"There'll be some sort of a clause at the end... when the film rolls that there aren't really any saltwater crocodiles in Katherine Gorge - so that'll be a positive as well."
Ms Shepherd says local businesses have benefited from the new film.
"Quite a few businesses were able to provide props for the film and one engineering business had to build a replica of one of the boats for them so that was certainly a very positive thing," she said.
"And obviously the accommodation and the shops had increases in their turnovers so that was excellent."
I hear a cello in the background...
One "seven-metre crocodile", one redneck with a "thutty thutty", there sure ain't enough material, here, for a movie!
How the hell could you stretch a 30 second solution out, for 90 minutes?
The local Gators are scared shitless, of the local Rednecks, damned if I can see why the Crocs ain't got the message, too!
Don't take me wrong, I really love my local Gators, so long as they stay in the creek, and off of the front porch.
