BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — The "gay cowboy movie" "Brokeback Mountain" led the Golden Globes Monday night with four prizes, including best dramatic film and the directing honor for Ang Lee. As expected, it was a triumphant night for films dealing with homosexuality and transsexuality. Along with the victories for "Brokeback Mountain," acting honors went to Felicity Huffman in a gender-bending role as a man preparing for sex-change surgery in "Transamerica" and Philip Seymour Hoffman as gay author Truman Capote in "Capote." "I know as actors our job is usually to shed our skins, but I think as people our job is to become who we really are, and so I would like to salute the men and women who brave ostracism, alienation and a life lived on the margins to become who they really are," Huffman said.

We went to see the beautiful story of MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, this weekend, and it was one of the best movies we have viewed in ages.. My son (a burgining Film student) and I are classic cinema nuts, so pay attention.. LOL..

The movie is a natural winner.. Director, Rob Marshall (CHICAGO), Music and a mesmerizing score by John Williams (Jaws, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc, etc, etc) Solos: Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma,(2 musical geniuses) Breathtaking cinematography by, Dion Beebe, (CHICAGO, Collateral), and plenty of HOT, HOT, Asian women.. :)

This film as with most fine films released last year were overlooked or downright trashed by Hollywood types if they threatened the gay porno (predetermined winners) theme.. Shame, shame, shame..

Sadly, I think you're right. I've never understood why people pay to see that stuff.

"When movies like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe make a killing and the crap like this are a bust, they will begin to correlate the two eventually
>>>.

The point of the Golden Globes and the Oscars are to CREATE MOMENTUM and ADDITIONAL FREE ADVERTISEMENT so that they can turn the "bust" into a hit.

Brokeback BTW, has already turned a profit (unfortunately). The site : boxofficemojo.com tells us that the fim was produced for only $14 Million. Assuming that marketing costs the same amount, the movie has already turned a small profit as of this writing -- $30 M.

Since the Golden Globe and the Oscars will "add" momentum and free advertisement to it, expect this movie to make a bigger profit ( although not necessarilly a killing ).

The lesson is clear -- Hollywood has an agenda. And it is "progressive". They want to award avante garde films that push our understanding of right and wrong tot he edge. Hence, they award movies like :

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN ( Its OK to indulge in Gay urges )

CIDER HOUSE RULES ( abortion is OK )

MILLION DOLLAR BABY ( Euthanasia is OK )

AMERICAN BEAUTY ( Gays are more tolerant than your average suburban dad ).

The Sea Inside ( its OK to lobby for euthanasia )

PARADISE NOW ( Just one last night. Its all about understanding how terrorists think ).

etc. etc. etc.

BTW, For what it's worth, the Johnny Cash Biopic --- WALK THE LINE was the other big winner.

BEST ACTOR IN A MUSICAL OR COMEDY -- Joaquin Phoenix
BEST ACTRESS IN A MUSCIAL OR COMEDY -- Resse Whitherspoon
BEST FILM ( MUSICAL OR COMEDY ).

Not bad at all. It remains to be seen whether we'll see the same thing at the Oscars. My bet is Brokeback will overshadow Walk the Line.

"Hollywood knows one thing, the bottom line. When movies like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe make a killing and the crap like this are a bust, they will begin to correlate the two eventually. Support those who make decent films and boycott those who don't, it will get through to them eventually."

I'm not so sure about that. I get the feeling these people use the "good and decent" movies to finance there agenda driven social commentaries THEY call films. Its kind of like big colleges that finance all the womens and mens lesser sports programs with their football programs.

Well, Brokeback was about two gay guys.

In the sequel, Brokebutt, will break up the "close" guy/guy relationship and explore the Kama Sutra with Mabel, an ewe, thus refreshingly returning the movie's theme to healthy heterosexual relationships.

True.

Also, XXX movies are even more profitable thusly.

Say, "Maggie Mouths Missouri" nets only $10 million. But production costs of the "actors" and the hotel room with a bed, mean profit is a high percentage of costs.

Of course, morality should not be an issue to concern with in these no morality times, right?

I agree - it would be an improvement if more people assessed their moral compass before making financial decisions.

I think the world would be a better place if they did.

I see several movies per week, but vow today that my movie viewing days are over. I refuse to give money to Hollywood after last night's mess. We control the money, it is now tome to show them...

I'm with you. But I don't know what else I can boycott. I already refuse to even watch on TV any movie that has Julia Roberts, the Baldwins, Streisand, Sean Penn, Madonna, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep, etc, etc, etc, etc. It's actually great, because it's given me a lot more time.

But there has to be something else we could do. Maybe the 90% of us who are revolted by Hollywood's putrescence could come up with the seed money to start a new film center, somewhere like Houston or Oklahoma City.

No more movies for me

Welcome to the Resistance.
I've only gone to seen films in the theater about 5 times in the last decade.
At first I did this because most new films are crap; then I realized
my ticket bankrolls the freaks in The Hollywood Colony of perverts.

My few movie rentals are virtually always of films that are at least 20 years old.

You've taken a step into the light!

My inexpert feeling is that Dallas-Ft.Worth metroplex has that sown up,
having had long-term production of Walker, Texas Ranger and a couple of
made-for-TV films.
And now there seem to be local-color shows like "Cheaters",
"Dallas SWAT", etc.
It ain't Hollywood and probably never will be. But it does have
at least a nucleus of talent and money.

I think they actually fancy themselves to be true artistes. They are so full of themselves, they actually think they are making enduring works of art.
It's a true closed circle of movie makers, critics, press and adorers. They completely close out their audience... after all Michael Moore summed it up when he said all Americans were stupid.
That IS exactly the mainstream belief in Hollyweird. They will have to take in the shorts (financially) in a big way (bankruptcy) before they will realize their folly.

He's talking about Conservative actors in Hollywood? Or men who boink sheep?

Men who boink sheep... Hollywood doesn's care about men who "brave ostracism, alienation" for their beliefs, unless those beliefs center around kinky sex...

This movie should be called BOINKBUTT MOUNTAIN because that's all it about. What nastry tripe past off as art!

IMHO, this movie just proves the point that the GLBT community don't just want our acceptance or tolerance of them as fellow human beings with a different bent.. they really don't want acceptance. They want us to share in their perversion.
They define themselves sexually and the only way they can identify themselves to the community is SEXUALLY. The fact that many of us don't care what they do in the privacy of their own bedrooms doesn't matter. They want us to participate in their immorality. The saddest thing is they are affecting our children.
I know of two young people who are very confused sexually and the anything goes crap that main stream media in this country constantly drums is not helping matters. Luckily both young people are still virgins, but questioning their sexuality nonetheless. Their parents are alarmed and desperate to see them follow positive family role models. Eighteen year olds don't realize the life the are consigning themselves to when they "come-out". There is so much ugliness, violence, promiscuity and death in this community. It is one more stepping stone in this culture of death our society seems to be embracing.
