KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Calif. - Spiders, centipedes and scorpion-like critters are among the 27 new animal species that biologists have discovered in the dark, damp caves of two Central California national parks, officials announced Tuesday.
The finds were made during a three-year study of 30 caves in Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks. Many of the creatures live only in caves and some only in one particular cave of Sequoia and Kings Canyon, according to the study, conducted by park staff and biologists from Austin, Texas-based Zara Environmental .
"We thought we might find a handful of new species," said Joel Despain, cave specialist for the parks. "It was amazing to find 27."

Have you not been pinged yet?
Not yet. Thanks. I donno if I should ping the whole evo list for this, so I'll ping "the few."
Every cave always has its own special cave species. Funny the Designer would do that. ;)
I used to cave crawl a little; found white crickets in one cave. Fascinating!
(Devolution in action!)
A can of Raid will take care of this.
I think Nebraska Man lived in one of those caves.
Nah, he got evicted. Lived like a pig.
"I think Nebraska Man lived in one of those caves."
Did they ever find any of these spiders in Nebraska? Man, that would be cool.
Yes, I just saw this article on Netscape News. Isn't that pseudo-scorpion the damnest thing you ever saw? It looks like it has the back-end of a very large termite, and the front end of a scorpion. Man. I wish I could see the photos of the other 27 new species. Maybe they're not "new", just that we didn't know about them being around for tens of thousands, (millions?) of years. Just goes to show, as I believe, there are a lot of creatures out there we don't know about it. I swear, I saw some of the damnest things I ever saw in the mountains of Nepal. Don't be surprised, one day we will be snooping around on some "uninhabited" island in the Coral Sea and besides finding more people that haven't had "human contact", we're gonna' find a flying dinosaur ... We're gonna' find a dragon. Yes sir.
I've often wondered if maybe a few dinosaurs may still be out there somewhere. At least maybe some little ones.
