Pcottraux's Friday FReeptoon
February 3, 2006 | pcottraux

Everyone, I just thought I’d announce that tonight marks the 40th FReeptoon I’ve drawn and posted. I don’t know if that means anything, but I’m sure it’s worth mentioning.

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer:

This is one of my favorites. It’s very simple and efficient, yet it’s also sharp and funny. I also brings a name to the gym coach character (Stroganoff). He, the principal, and the bully both have been established as minor characters who make occasional appearances. He is VERY MUCH based on my own experiences with ridiculous sadistic and uncaring drill-sergeant-like coaches.

This strip is also important, however, within the context of the strip’s evolution. If you look at the entire notebook full of Dinklemeyer strips as a whole, united linear story, then this, my friends, is the sunset of Act I. The world has been introduced, the protagonist has been developed, and the world’s possibilities are being explored. The beginning is over. Now, starting with the next strip (to be run Tuesday), we will begin to meet new, funny characters and see the possibilities of where this world can go.

Or, if you don’t take cartoons as seriously as I do, then you can just look at this as a silly, fun little doodle. Whichever you prefer.

As is customary, I must inform everyone who probably already knows that the full FReeptoons archive is at the bottom of my homepage.

And since this is FReeptoon number 40, there are 39 toons on my home page just waiting for you to look at them.

Enjoy.

It could be a sign that alien short people are coming in from the planet Gorgon X to invade our showers and dominate our rooftops so they can shout from the highest mountains.

Or it could be a coincidence.

Yeah, I guess just imagine in the second panel that the RPG the guy is holding is just a giant eraser. That would be a deadly weapon. You could rub people out with it!

Great job again, and congrats on your 40th cartoon. I see you've featured my favorite goofy guy with the tongue and eyeballs.

Yeah, I guess I am. It doesn't take much to set these guys off! This whole outrage is one of the biggest overreactions I've ever seen.

I hate to imagine Muslims feeling threatened by a harmless little geek like me!

Yes, and this time, I gave him a tongue Gene Simmons would be envious of!

Anyone noticing the guy poking his head into the lower left of the first frame?

ridiculous sadistic and uncaring drill-sergeant-like coaches.

I think that's pretty universal. I'm a woman, but even our lady gym teachers/coaches were like that. When my kids were little, I was shocked when my babysitter told me they had co-ed gym. Even more sorry those boys had a female teacher that I had. Poor boys. (Verbal humiliation)

That is pretty terrible...the poor boys.

This character is actually a combination of two of my Middle School Gym coaches: he bears a physical resemblance to my 6th grade coach. But my 8th grade coach...she was about four feet tall, and one of the meanest, psychotic people I've ever met. And she ESPECIALLY had it out for me.

There were times I got detention from her and I didn't even know what I had done wrong. She would just grab me and give it. And I would ask over and over why I had detention, and would never get a clear answer.

Oh, look! Here's a photo of the 40th president, who was also conservative and funny. Coincidence??????

Clearly not. The 40 thing...it's just piling up more and more.

Throw someone who's 40 years old, and we're onto something here.

Oh, someone just posted a Britney Spears thread in General.

*Sigh*...the hot girl threads that steal away all my views...it's like they're following me! Every time a post a FReeptoon, there's a hottie thread!

Britney Spears...you are my new arch-enemy. I will crush your thread!

I think having co-ed gym is insane. But, I'm older and you took it as a normal occurrence.

Actually physical abuse was common for the boys when I was in school. And now the coaches let the kids do it. My HS was in the news in 2003 for the sex abuse that happened under the coaches nose. Think football camp. In my community people who knew how these coaches were, say they know that the coaches knew what was going on.
