Seattle coach laments having to ‘take on the guys in the striped shirts, too

DETROIT - No appreciation or consolation in Seattle for the Seahawks, at least not yet.

Nope, they were still stuck in frustration.

The post-Super Bowl parties went into early Monday morning as the Seahawks at least tried to celebrate their season, instead of their somber Sunday. Later, coach Mike Holmgren tried to refocus the team, momentarily, on what it had done and what it still may do.

(Snip) –

And the Seahawks were still stinging from a few officials’ calls that went against them, such as Darrell Jackson’s touchdown catch that was taken away by a penalty and a disputed TD run by Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger.

“We knew it was going to be tough going up against the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Holmgren told the fans at Qwest Field. “I didn’t know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well.”

That's true, I used to really respect him. I would have thought that he'd never say such a thing.

........ or punted into the end zone all the time, or dropped passes with a bad case of "alligator arms".

It's sad to see a man of Holmgren's stature lower himself with a remark like that.

Holmgren knows the sentiment in the country is with him. That's why he said it. And the NFL better know it has a big problem with officials.

Jerry Seamon has some work to do in the off season.

And two big mistakes like that can easily cost him his job.

Holmgren has shown a poor side of his character here ......... and his clock management skills.

;-)

Holmgren's not going to get fired for losing the only SB game Seattle's ever been in!! That's nuts.

He was just saying out loud what everybody knows. This game was a disgrace - too many bad calls on the field, and they all went against the Seahawks (who btw, played a mighty fine game!)

I agree. I used to be a big Steelers fan but I felt guilty rooting for them last night. My husband felt the same way. I just wonder how the Steelers fans would feel if the refs had called a bunch of bad calls against the Steelers. I don't blame the Steelers. I blame the refs.

Awww, that's not fair! You know the game was lopsided! You've just got your head in the sand! :P

I'll say this, I have no love for your Stealers, or the Sea Chickens, but yesterday's game ended my watching Pro Football for a long time to come, and I have a relative who is the starting QB for another team. The whole family has joined in encouraging him to leave the league ASAP

"Holmgren knows the sentiment in the country is with him. That's why he said it."

That's all the more reason a class act wouldn't have to say it.

I can't remember which commentator said it, but one of them said that at the end of last season Holdgrem had a conversation with the owner and wondered if he was right for the team.

It wasn't the officials that screwed up the clock at the end of both halfs.

True ... Seattle deserved to lose because they made several key errors.

Still, the referees were too visible in the game -- they were calling Seattle very closely, and the Steelers not nearly as closely. The crucial holding calls, for instance, most of which were cheap, and wouldn't have affected the play in any case. And the flagrant Steelers offsides on one key play ... how in hell did the refs miss that?

I don't blame the Steelers either - they played a great game too. And maybe Seattle still would have lost. I'm just really disappointed in the refs is all.

And yet the Steeler apologists were high-fiving and kissing Joey Porter's ass when he said the same thing after the Indy game.

Let's see, 1 bad call in a win, versus several bad calls in a loss. Who actually has more right to complain?

Holmgren's story yesterday was that they tried hard, but the other team made the plays and beat them.

He must have been reading FR Super Bowl threads to espouse the stuff that came out of him mouth tonight.

Made him look small, like a sore loser.
