Coach Holmgren Apologizes to Tagliabue (Steeler/Seahawk Alert)
Free Republic ^ | 2/09/06 | self

Dear Mr. Tagliabue,

I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to you and the league for my intemperate remarks at our ceremony at Qwest Field concerning the officiating during the Superbowl.

On Monday, just one short day after “losing” (oops) the game, I was still burned about the outcome, and I had consumed about a pound of bad jumbo shrimp for lunch, my stomach was churning, and it was just a bad day all around. I came home from Detroit, our cat was missing from the house, the Governor’s dog was hit by a car, and she was blaming me for that. Just real bad all around, Paul.

Paul, I was still stinging from calls that went against our team. It seemed like the bad calls were stacking up as high as the Space Needle.

I’ve always been known as a good and decent man in the community. Well, perhaps except for the time I borrowed my neighbor’s Rototiller to do that work on the Church rose garden .................. heck I didn’t see that rock ............. like I didn’t see that sneaky Steeler trick play coming. My neighbor told me he wouldn’t be using that Rototiller for a good long time, I thought he’d never noticed it was broken. Wosrt thing I ever did, Paul......... until now.

I feel as badly about my comment to the fans, “ "I didn't know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well”, as I did about giving my neighbor back his mangled Rototiller. Come to think about it, that Rototiller was as busted as our defense on that Willie Parker blast right through our defense.

In closing, you must know that I’m still crushed about the loss and my words, but if you and the league are going to fine me for my perverse and untoward words, I ask you to please take into consideration that at least I didn’t refer to the officials as zebras. That should count for something.......................... and, Paul, am I off the competition committee?

Regards,

Mike Holmgren

Demonstrate some class. Shut the hell up about the Super Bowl!

Quit quoting from DU, and please leave it to PJ-Comix.

>>>>>Doesn't take much to pull you in, kid.

You're only five years ahead of me in age, but mentally you're still that 13 year old in the schoolyard. I've tried to be a nice guy about you pinging me to several different threads since Sunday. But now I've had enough. No more pings. Thanks.

I've got relatives in Johnstown PA. I don't ever remember them whining like you Steelers fans have been. What a bunch of classless bozo's you are. And don't bother coming out to Colorado. You'd get lost trying to find your way.

The Steelers may have won the game, but you and your ilk are losers.

He says he is going away for good, but he keeps coming back for more. Like a moth to a flame he is, he is.

I don't ever remember them whining like you Steelers fans have been.

The only whining has been from the Steeler-haters (from Holmgren all the way down to the fools who think malapropisms like "Stealers" and "Squeelers" are urgently clever).

For the Black and Gold, it's all joy (with huge dollops of Schadenfreude).

Damn, I wish I woulda said that, 'anat.

By the way, have you noticed, I cannot remember one Younzer fan here on FR referring to the Seahawks as anything but Seahawks? Has anyone referred to them as anything else......... well maybe "The Runnerups".

QB shows more class than the coach:

****

KAPOLEI, Hawaii (AP) — Matt Hasselbeck says he's still upset about a game he lost in high school. So it's way too soon for him to be over Seattle's Super Bowl setback to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

And the Seahawks' quarterback made it clear that he didn't agree with several decisions made by the officiating crew last Sunday.

"I certainly don't want to add fuel to that fire," Hasselbeck said after going through his first Pro Bowl workout Wednesday. "They're not trying to screw calls up. Sometimes, you get it right, sometimes, you don't. They're doing the best they can.

"We've got to move on, say, 'Hey, we didn't get it done. We didn't do enough to win the game.'"

****

This kid is excellent and classy. He'll be in the league for a long time.

A real breath of fresh air the kid is. I wish him luck in the future, but not against the Steelers.

So unlike his head coach...

i have to admit i have been calling them "shehawks" - pretty mild compared to the spittle-flecked invective hurled at the world champs

Bruins 3, Penguins 1
AP, Feb 8, 2006

Penguins coach Michel Therrien rarely shies away from criticizing his players after poor performances. That certainly didn't change after his team lost for the 17th time in 18 games, this time 3-1 to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night. "It was a bad performance," Therrien said after Pittsburgh was outshot 38-17 to fall to 1-15-2 since Jan. ...

All you guys need is a goaltender, some wingers and a couple of defensemen. Other than that, the Pens look to be in great shape!!!

I well remember when the city of Pittsburgh had the NFL Super Bowl Championship, the Stanley Cup Campionship and the World Series Championship all in the same year, 1979. They don't call Pittsburgh the City of Champions for nothing.

Had Dallas ever had three major championship wins in the same year? I didn't think so. Has any other city ever had three major championship wins in the same year? I didn't think so.

So the Penguins are lousy this year. Were the Cowboys in the playoffs this year? Any other Dallas teams doing well this year.

Are the Boston Bruins from Dallas?

So, exactly what is your point here? To mock the city of Pittsburgh? There could be a lot more said to mock the city of Dallas.

Are you still so bitter about the Steelers victory that you will be in mourning forever?

Are you off your meds, or what? Get a clue and get a life.
